Loma’s record at 135 was 8-2 with 4KOs and both Ls there were ultimately highly competitive. The idea he was too small for 35 is trash. Was he better at 130? Maybe but his opposition was also just pretty good there. It’s ok to have a hell of a run short of myth.

5 wins. McCallum was a draw though the feeling from many was Toney should have edged it

Agree. And sometimes you have a year like Toney in 1991 where he just explodes with three elite performances. Every year is different.
Hey Smokin Joe, you won the biggest fight ever in arguably the best fight ever and they’ll make books and movies about it 60 years from now but darn it I can’t vote for you because you didn’t get that Terry Daniels fight in on time?
🤣

I agree guys should fight more. Some years, that’s not what matters
The idea anyone would need a set number of fights to be the fighter of a given year is silly thinking. Most guys win it for a particular fight anyways even with more activity. Like Holyfield wouldn’t have been FOTY 96 without Czyz?
Incorrect. It’s happened other times. Tunney, Schmeling, Sharkey, Ingo, Patterson, Frazier in 71…all won on single fight campaigns. Hagler shared his Ring award with Curry in 85 (was BWAA solo)

Depends on the single win. Crawford-Alvarez, Leonard-Hagler were singles that were so massive it justified anyone who selected them. Hagler was a consensus choice in 85 with one fight in an era where people fighting just twice was considered whack

That card was trash but two of them were clean.
Foster learned how to fight the old fashioned way. Took some early L’s, honed his craft, and when the moment arrived he was ready.

In 10 months, O’Shaquie Foster has beaten Stephen Fulton, Raymond Ford and Emanuel Navarrete — all while some so-called stars and pound-for-pound talents haven’t fought at all or have been in the ring just once.
There hasn’t been an “undisputed” champ at 130 since Kobayashi in 1967. Hope Foster gets the Cacace-Ball winner .
8-4 Foster. My guy when this was announced gut was Shaq but I didn’t think he could get a decision in San Anton. Those two KDs might have made fate work for him.
Foster won that round for about 2:50 but that stagger at the end was consequential. Circle that one too
