When you're running the session, people will pick up on and follow your mood.
If you're feeling shy, insecure, or bored - your players will mirror that.
So - set the mood you want in your game. Be relaxed, confident, and excited.

My favorite magic item:
Ropey. A sentient piece of rope, as smart as a puppy. Can obey simple commands (coil, uncoil, knot, crawl).

Trying as hard as you can to be good at roleplaying engages your mental censors, and you begin filtering out many weird and creative ideas you deem not good enough.
Instead of trying your hardest, play with the sense of cheerful relaxed curiosity about what happens next.

Never frame failed rolls as incompetence on the side of the player's character (you swing your sword and... you miss).
Instead, frame it as a response from the antagonists (the orc steps aside just in time to parry your attack).
