This is the crux of the issue.
Below is the evolution of the price of a flat white from 2009 to 2025. I very roughly overlayed a blue line on it to highlight the increased number of Euros in circulation (measured by euro m2).
The supply of Euro's increased by 86% from 2009 to 2025, resulting in each euro being worth approximately 54% of its original value.
The cost of a flat white increased by 25% in Euro terms - to some seems like price gouging - but the reality is that the cafe owner receives only 65% of the 2009 value per cup.
As a result, the cafe owner loses & the customer loses.
