In 2011 I launched Ruling Sports as a sports law blog. Since, I've written for major publications, interviewed top athletes and saw the ins-and-outs of sport. Now, I'm reimagining Ruling Sports. The trailer for my new podcast, Ruling Sports, is live: open.spotify.com/show/0kVjW8…

Six questions that reporters should be asking Maria Cantwell about her support of the #PCSA but for the most part aren't: 1. Your views on college athlete rights have changed substantially in recent years from once seeming to support athletes' free economic rights to now desiring to curb them. Who influenced you to change your thinking on this matter? (The 'who' is what matters). 2. @achristovichh ran a story online today about a new college sports Super PAC that has targeted Congresspeople. Has anyone with that Super PAC, or with otherwise similar interests who may run in similar circles, spoken to you? 3. In a similar vein, have you spoken with anyone from the Knight Commission, and if so who? If you have, who did they claim to represent? And, what were their talking points? 4. @DionneKoller was your No. 1 choice to testify before Congress on college sports issues in 2020. She strongly opposes this bill. Why don't you still trust Dionne's guidance? 5. @RulingSports also states having publicly spoken to your staff and opposed the bill. Yet, you disagree with her too. Why isn't her guidance compelling? 6. To the extent you believe this bill is good for female athletes, what does it mean to you that so many well-known, female sports law professors including @DionneKoller, @RulingSports, @ammoorman, @NellieDrew1 all publicly oppose the bill? If that's not probative of anything to you, why not?

Fire fighters are incredible. 🙏🏼
UPDATE: Firefighters are gaining the upper hand on the Bryson Fire in Malibu, with hand crews, dozers and helicopters making progress against the flames. The fire is now at 200 acres. Evacuation orders and warnings remain in place. Santa Ana wind/fire conditions expected through Saturday night.

Lawyering 101: Never ask a witness a question you don’t know the answer to. Whoever let Eric Schmitt trot this out as a supposed “smoking gun”—only to embarrass himself for it *not* to be and uncover his lack of sports knowledge—did him dirty.
A phenomenal moment in the Senate. Eric Schmitt, R-Mo., claims he has evidence Jack Smith went to a HAWKS game in Atlanta. Smith denies it. Schmitt declares he has busted Jack Smith for perjury. Smith, vexed, says he went to HAWKEYES game in Maryland. Watch the whole thing:

College athletes put their bodies on the line every day—and generate billions of dollars for their universities, conferences, and the NCAA. The Protect College Sports Act pulls the rug out from under them. I will keep fighting alongside college athletes until they get the rights and protections they deserve.

Senator Kennedy has a point. If the Protect College Sports Act becomes law, just remember: elected officials voted to limit compensation to American workers (including American workers of private employers).
Senator Kennedy proposes amendment to the Protect College Sports Act that would cap ticket price increases at 4% each year. Senator Cruz opposes it and calls it price fixing. Kennedy responds by saying the whole bill is price fixing. Amendment gets 42 votes, but fails

I spent four years as a credentialed media member covering the Heat. LeBron was there three, and gone to Cleveland my last year. Media attendance was like night and day between years three and four.
I’m told media day for the @sixers is usually is about 40 journalists. Today, they are expecting well over 100. Room is packed. #lebroneffect

Last night I saw @JonBatiste at the Hollywood Bowl. It was a couple hours of pure joy. Batiste is a genius—how many instruments he plays in one show is unbelievable. With his voice he often says, “I don’t know you, but I love you.” Imagine a world where all held that sentiment.
