Tremendous progress has been made, and you love to see it.

Skip is the first representative of the general public who doesn't actually represent mainstream tobacco control.
The four previous holders of the position:
- Scout (no first name), an anti-tobacco LGBT activist.
- Pebbles Fagan, an anti-tobacco professor engaged in tobacco research (as members of the general public do).
- Sonia Duffy, an anti-tobacco nursing professor.
- Patricia Nez Henderson, an anti-tobacco Native American activist who wants to "decolonize tobacco" and feels unsafe being in the same room as the tobacco industry.

One of my best campaigns, and the posters are still up at my local hospital over 10 years later
“While the [Irish] government ban will prohibit the legal sale of flavors, illegal sales are likely to be bolstered. After the Netherlands banned nontobacco vape flavors in 2024, a survey found that 47% of existing vapers continued using illegal flavors.”

The Irish government is banning vape flavors. The restrictions could drive adults back to smoking and hand business to the illicit market. reason.com/2026/10/28/irelan…
"Ireland's Taoiseach (head of government), Micheál Martin, has described vaping as "nearly worse than cigarettes," calling them the "revenge of Big Tobacco." Of course, as studies by PHE, CRUK, the RCP, and countless other organizations show, vaping is vastly safer than smoking and is an extremely effective cessation tool."

I am more than a little concerned that recent events have made it necessary to revisit @Clive_Bates' Substack, "The Worst Idea in the History of Tobacco Control".

The same anti-vaping arguments are now surfacing in testimony about nicotine pouches, says Laura Leigh Oyler. She warns national messaging can shape local policy. Source: youtu.be/3M-05qpX70w

Speaking of amazing bonus material that came with my purchase of 'The Stanley Kubrick Collection' on VHS, this is 30 minutes of "behind the scenes" footage that still blows my mind.
If you've seen it, be aware that you can never overindulge. Enjoy!

I've decided it's a cozy night and high time to watch #TheShining again.
I have to admit, I'm a bit envious of having such a nice place to write for 5 months!

Wow. We hear the same story (with our relatives who have died or get sick from cigarette smoking) and come to the opposite conclusion. We conclude that THR saves lives. Both perspectives have the suffering in common.
No matter how old or terrified you might be, never forgo an opportunity to participate in a community theater production.
It's hard work, but you'll discover plenty of new things about yourself that make it all worthwhile.
Thank you. That is all.

Note that this review is very cautious in estimating the toxicant exposure reductions when switching from cigarettes to e-cigs. e.g. E-cigs emit no CO. Never smokers often have an exhaled CO=2ppm. Smokers often have a CO level of 16ppm. So a reduction to 2ppm should be 100%. But here it is estimated as only 87.5% reduction, not accounting for background/endogenous levels. Despite this cautious approach, the study demonstrates large reductions in a wide range of toxicants when switching from cigarettes to e-cigs.
A new systematic review and meta-analysis published in Archives of Toxicology, covering 60 studies, found substantial reductions in exposure to #harmful #chemicals among #smokers who switched completely to e-cigarettes.

"Not everyone who wants to quit smoking is able or willing to attend regular counselling sessions, and our results show that they can still benefit from simply being offered an e-cigarette."
