And if it's inconclusive, he will remain caretaker prime minister with an awful lot of incentive to shift policies to win the next round.
Spoiler alert - Even if he loses the bulk of his seats, Benjamin Netanyahu will still be Israel's Prime Minister next week.
As a caretaker PM, he could remain in office for weeks, perhaps months.
A record number of Israelis have come out to choose their new government. Polls close at 10pm local time (8pm UK).
Official results should be published on 4 November.

Voter turnout in the Arab population is LOWER than the nationwide figure of 55.7%, contrary to statements by some Israeli politicians. Arab turnout is historically lower than the general population, but this time the gap is smaller than usual.
There was a period -- from 1991 until, arguably, 2019 -- when it could be safely assumed that a rival's minor provocation against the U.S. would elicit an overwhelming response.
Never really sustainable if it was tested enough. And now Iran has basically buried it.

The United States currently maintains approximately 50,000 military personnel in the Middle East, many of whom have faced lethal threats and attacks from Iran and its proxies while defending regional partners, American interests, and international commercial shipping. These ships are crewed by civilian mariners from countries around the world, many of whom have faced indiscriminate missile and drone attacks by Iran and its proxies that amount to maritime terrorism. These men and women in American uniform are among our nation's greatest treasures, and their lives remain at risk every day.
Washington has also deployed multiple aircraft carrier strike groups, provides defensive systems, munitions, and intelligence to help regional partners sustain their own defense, consistent with long-standing U.S. policy. The United States has also authorized the export of some of its most advanced semiconductor technology to regional partners, helping build the foundation for their long-term economic prosperity.
These commitments, and the risks and costs borne by the American people, should be kept in mind the next time someone suggests that U.S. support for the region is insufficient or that America is in retreat.
Frameworks without deterrence, without geopolitical centers of gravity, are just fancy MoUs.
The GCC still lacks both. As a result, non-aggression pacts with Iran are not sustainable.
This, to me, sounds like a Saudi pitch that is trying to say 1). we won't make the mistakes of 2015 (Saudi do not have the ability to shock and awe) and 2). we aren't interested in appeasement either and 3). we're cobbling together a fresh war strategy

Israelis are much more divided by personality than by policy, and there are almost no splits on strategy.
Eisenkot's coalition would be risk-averse; Netanyahu's would be risk-obsessed. Neither would back a Palestinian state and both would seek to degrade, even defeat, Iran.

Voter turnout is high, but the trend varies across cities. The main takeaway is that smaller parties, primarily those in Netanyahu’s bloc, will have a harder time crossing the electoral threshold.

Israelis are headed to the polls as Netanyahu fights for his political survival. What will the outcome mean for potential renewed fighting with Iran? Will Trump restart attacks after the U.S. midterms?
And how significant are these reports of the IDF resisting Netanyahu’s command for an Iran attack? Let’s talk about it 🗳️
Bibi is sticking with the tried and true scaremongering of Arab turnout. Feels as empty as the last-minute GOP attempts to bring back the migrant caravans before the midterms.

Bullish for an Eisenkot lead right now. But I've been upended by Israeli politics many times before.

GENEVA, Oct 26 (Reuters) - Fuel shortages in Yemen's besieged city of Taiz have forced one hospital to cut the number of incubators it can operate from 40 to 10, putting newborn babies at risk as weeks of fighting choke off vital supplies and deepen a humanitarian crisis affecting hundreds of thousands of people.
"There's no oxygen, there's no fuel to run the incubators, to keep the babies warm," said Nada Ahmed, a nurse in the neonatal unit of the Yemeni-Swedish Hospital for Maternity and Childhood.
Nawal Najeeb, a supervisor in the neonatal unit, warned the facility could be forced to halt operations if fuel supplies do not arrive.
"It will be a catastrophe for the babies, a catastrophe of deaths and disabilities."
Taiz has been largely isolated since October 3, with fightingpreventing humanitarian supplies from entering and civilians from leaving, following an escalation in clashes between the Saudi-backed government and the Iran-aligned Houthi movement.
