Tough loss given the circumstances for the Celtics, but the Rockets look legit, between the jump in stats for Jabari Smith and the return of FVV, a team to keep an eye on in the West.
Final from Tallahassee: 81 Florida State, 51 Merrimack
A lot to take away from that first and fourth quarter for the Warriors, even outscoring FSU by 9 in the final 10 minutes.
Claudia Crespo led the way for Merrimack with 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 blocks in 28 minutes.
Naomi Wilson was excellent off the bench, a 10 point 14 rebound double-double in her MC debut
Warrior returner Kristen Kelley got her shot going late, 2 threes in the 4th.
Can’t wait for Sunday to see this team in person against Maine, they will battle NJIT on the road on Thursday beforehand.
Anddd build some momentum the Warriors are doing!!!
Crespo, Wilson, and Kelley all shining here in the 4th QTR, they’ve all got 10.
After 3 quarters: FSU 67, MC 28
Highest scoring quarter of the game for FSU, with 29 points in the 10 mins.
Claudia Crespo continues to be a bright spot here, she’s got 8 points, 4 rebounds in 20 minutes.
10 minutes to build some momentum heading into a America East-Metro battle with NJIT on Thursday.
At the 3rd QTR media timeout: Florida State 50, Merrimack 26.
Seminoles starting to heat up from distance, they’re up to 6 threes now.
Naomi Wilson has been legit for MC, she’s got 6 points and 11 rebounds, also started the second half for Merrimack
Claudia Crespo also with 6 points, highlighted by a nifty And-1 here in the 3rd.
Score at the half: Florida State 38, Merrimack 19
After Merrimack’s timeout halfway through the second, the Seminoles started to click.
A 15-0 run to end the first half, and while it still felt like the Warriors were hanging in there defensively, they only had 2 made field goals in the 10 minutes.
MC is still outrebounding FSU, 18-14
Jamie Kent the leading scorer with 5 points
These opening 5 or so minutes will tell the tale the rest of the way.
Timeout at the 6:16 mark in the second QTR by Merrimack, 23-19 FSU leads.
Warriors continue to hang around & be competitive, what stands out most to me? Rebounding and drawing fouls.
Merrimack 14 REB, FSU 8
Merrimack 5 fouls, FSU 8
If the Warriors can start forcing some turnovers while taking care of the ball, things are going to get seriously interesting.
What a start to the Coach Traversi era at Merrimack.
Score after Q1? FSU 16, MC 15
The Warriors are completely controlling the defensive glass, Florida State didn’t have their first second chance opportunity until their last possession.
All 5 starters have score for Merrimack, team’s got 9 points from behind the arc too.
An ideal opening 10 minutes in Tallahassee .
The Coach Traversi-MC era is officially underway!
At the first Q1 media timeout: FSU 11, MC 6
Crespo and Williams with 2 threes for the Warriors early.
Also to note: Kelley and Williams got the starting nod, the lone returnees for MC
Warriors also out rebounding the Seminoles 6-3.
Just under 40 mins from tip-off, can’t wait!
This is a true Merrimack hoops Marathon, 6 AM-6PM, should this be the new norm?
It’s gameday in Tallahassee!
The Warriors open the season against the Florida State Seminoles TONIGHT at 6 pm.

Final from Rock Hill:
App State 63 Merrimack 49
In short? The early App State avalanche won them this game, putting up 43 in the first 20 minutes was a tall mountain to climb for MC.
But it doesn’t mean there wasn’t a ton to love from an MC point of view, Warriors outscored them 28-20 in the final 20 mins, zone hunkered down and we saw some offensive flashes from Anglin, Anderson & Lesburt.
Ready to go for Thursday when the Warriors welcome Umass Lowell to town for their home opener.
Bonus note, feels like a ton of outliers that we will be looking back on for Merrimack, obviously starting with a 6 am start time, Brogna being in serious foul trouble throughout, and the team only hitting 4 threes all feel like trends we won’t see often, or again.
59-43 APP state at the final media TO
Merrimack’s defense is playing significantly better right now, they’re even outscoring the Mountaineers this half (22-16)
Full court trap/zone trap rest of the way and make this a fight until the end?
Denver Anglin drills the first MC 3 of the season on a 3-1 fast break.
Merrimack is starting to figure things out, 28-12 App state at the 3rd media timeout.
The glaring stat is App state 5 3’s to MC’s 1.
