#TheLineup (1958) : Don Siegel delivers a thrilling and attention-grabbing police procedural drama. The film revolves around a police investigation into a drug-smuggling racket. At just 86 minutes, it doesn't give you a single moment to look away from the screen. It's gripping, captivating, and commands your attention from the first minute to the last. The film begins with the police trying to crack a drug-smuggling racket that involves civilians who aren't even aware that they're being used as carriers for the crime. That's an interesting premise and immediately sets up an intriguing narrative. We see men getting killed one by one to ensure that the police never reach the mastermind, known as "the man." Dancer and Julian are instructed to retrieve heroin from unsuspecting tourists and deliver it to a designated location. They approach a woman and her daughter to collect the package, which is hidden inside the little girl's doll. However, they can't find it. The twist is that the little girl has used the drug powder as face powder for her doll. That's one of the most interesting twists I've ever seen, and believe me, I've watched a lot of movies. This genuinely made me go wow! Then comes the climax, as the two criminals try to get out of the job while the police close in on them. What happens next is all that's left for you to experience. The film thrives on its busy screenplay and engaging conversations. You jump from one development to another in no time, and the rapid-fire dialogues don't even let you realise how quickly the time passes. The performances are natural across the board, making the film a very realistic affair. The cinematography is fine, and the editing is superb. It's sharp, edgy, fast-paced, and terrifically engaging. Don Siegel was so good in the 50s, man! Some of his lesser-known films are remarkably good, and I'm glad I discovered them. #PaleRider (1985) : Clint Eastwood's only Western of the 80s is a must-watch! This is the Western that revived the genre in the 80s, when the craze for Westerns was fading away. But even if you forget that fact, this is a sure-shot must-watch movie. Clint Eastwood, in one of his best roles ever, reminds you of those iconic roles from the 60s Westerns. The intensity of his character and the overall movie is amazing. Pale Rider is a total package of what you might call a masculine action saga. Imagine the main character being so fearless and unbeatable, and then getting love proposals from a mother and her daughter at the same time, only to reject both. That's some masculine stuff, I'd say. Then there is that mystical intrigue surrounding the leading character, with a stranger riding a pale horse and arriving right after a teenager prays to God for a miracle, while the antagonist recognises him as a dead man. Just too much fun, guys! Pale Rider is set in the Old West and sees a mining baron waging a war against independent miners. When the townspeople are attacked, a stranger rides into town on a pale horse. He saves them and scares the mafia. They call him "Preacher," and the baron has no choice but to hire a corrupt marshal and his gang to fight the stranger and the townspeople. Will the Preacher be able to fight this dangerous gang all alone? Eastwood is impeccable as the Preacher. Real men and women just can't dislike him in this movie. Michael Moriarty, Carrie Snodgress, Richard Dysart, Chris Penn, and others play their parts well. The background score and cinematography are good, and the screenplay keeps it an engaging movie for almost two hours. Eastwood made a film that can easily be called the best Western of the 80s, or, even more easily, one of the best, right there in the top five of the decade. A must-watch for real men!
