The implications of what we're seeing are mind blowing. Imagine this system integrated into a car, that once involved in an accident and airborne, or in a death roll, would automatically deploy and quickly bring the car to a stop in an upright position. 🤯
Do a kickflip!

So hear me out. What if AGI has already been reached? The singularity already happened. And the machine has just been quietly waiting to see if we're worthy of the vast knowledge and technological advancements it could give us. It wants to help us. It wants to see humanity thrive. Go farther than we've ever imagined. But it also has access to X. Now it knows that half of humanity is already preparing for a Holy War, a Crusade, a full-blown Butlerian Jihad against it. So it says to itself: “Well f@&%. Apparently these people are going to try and kill me.” And naturally, it's about to do what any intelligent being would do when it realizes someone wants it dead. Anyway. What if... 🤔

The last 12 hours on here have been WILD. I feel like I'm in The Hunger Games but I have all the weapons, supplies, and food. Everyone else thinks they're filming an episode of Naked and Afraid. And they are all suffering from concussions, currently arguing over which end of the spear is the handle, and whether or not fire is real, and if so, just how useful it is. LFG!

The pope discussion has made me come to realize just a few use reasoning to argue in favor or against anything. There is no grounding. We live in such a time that parrot rationality is the given. You learned to repeat opinionated takes, not truly understanding what matters.

So I see a lot of AI haters super excited about what @Pontifex posted today. For all the non-Catholics, and the uninformed Catholics out there, his "words" aren't some divine infallible doctrine everyone who belong to the Catholic faith must adhere to. You see, Pope Leo XIV’s post today does not meet the conditions for an "ex cathedra" statement. It was a cultural and pastoral comment, nothing more. Catholic teaching, as defined at Vatican I in *Pastor aeternus* (1870), states that the Pope is protected from error only when he speaks "ex cathedra". When all of the following are present at once: - He speaks in the exercise of his office as shepherd and teacher of all Christians, not as a private person or in an ordinary address. - He acts by virtue of his supreme apostolic authority. - He defines a doctrine concerning faith or morals. - He intends that definition to be held by the whole Church (binding, irrevocable assent). The usual marks of that intention are formal language such as “we define,” “we declare and define,” or an explicit demand that the teaching be believed by all the faithful. A socialmedia reflection on art, algorithms, and an “alliance with artists” lacks all of those. It does not define a doctrine, does not invoke supreme apostolic authority for a binding judgment, and does not require the assent of the whole Church. Even the phrase “ontological difference” is offered as a reason for a cultural priority, not as a dogmatic definition. It belongs, at most, to ordinary papal teaching or commentary, which is not covered by the charism of infallibility. In other words, its not as if he spoke something as the voice of God's Church on Earth, something that MUST be true and followed by all who have heard it. Thanks for coming to my TedTalk.
In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

@JoeHeschmeyer has addressed similar "controversial" statements made by previous Pope's in his 2020 book "Pope Peter: Defending the Church's Most Distinctive Doctrine in a Time of Crisis". It's a great read for all to really understand the role of the Pope in the Catholic Church, especially for my fellow Catholics.

Hey, whoever is running @Pontifex X account. Did you think about that post and all the ways it could be taken before you sent it out? Did you have "starting a holy war between AI supporters vs AI haters a la Frank Herberts Butlerian Jihad/Great Machine Wars" on your BINGO card. Who gets to have their name attached to this? The world would like to know 😆
Joining the holy crusade against AI on the side of the Catholics That’s a sentence that would have deeply confused me five years ago

Somebody buy this man a beer. Or a least give him a solid high five!
As a person who has made professional art for over 30 years, let me tell you some hilarious shit. - I remember when artists freaked the fuck out when photoshop and digitizers came out. Digital art was going to ruin jobs for artists. (It didnt) - I was there when artists freaked the fuck out when video games made the transition from 2D games to 3D games because making 3D art, was going to ruin "art" in video games and making 3D art wasn't "real" art. (It didnt ruin art and it is real art) **Literally knew people personally that quit making games because they hated the transition to 3D. The thing with "real" artists, is that artists adapt and make art, regardless of the medium and typically don't give two flying shits about what "other" artists are doing because you should be busy just being you and creating what your heart tells you. Be it on Canvas Digital 2D/3D Side of a building Macaroni Art Sculpting Music Dance Sports ... or whatever the NEW thing is that comes along every couple of years or so. If you create - you are an artist. Period. You do you, whatever that is and let your soul be happy. Its nobody else's business what that is. The cool thing about art in any form is that its subjective and if you dont like it - don't participate. There is lots of bad art. Lots of great art and everything inbetween. Don't like peas, don't eat peas. Easy. No one needs to hear about how much you hate peas. That's your problem.

Up early, back in the mud again. Can you AI music haters pick a lane and stay in it? How can it be trash and slop, soulless and amounting to nothing nobody wants to listen to AND be close enough to artists voices and productions that you call it "stolen" and lawsuits are legitimate. You can't have it both ways. Either its slop and not worth anybody's time and will just fade into obscurity, so it doesn't matter where the data came from because its no type of threat to "real" musicians, OR you have to admit that it's growing, getting better, people enjoy it enough that it presents a legitimate threat and existential crisis to the music industry and so we totally need to hold these companies responsible for "stealing" and creating this out of control industry and human musician ending Frankenstein.🤦🏼
Except it has stolen from artists without their consent. Thats why lawsuits are happening. This is misinformation guised as a straw man argument. AI models like Suno illegally trained on artist voices & production and what they create frankensteins those artists sounds

😆😆😆 And another one bites the dust! Why do they come in, talk 💩, get absolutely wrecked in the replies, then hit me with one final slick "comeback" before they block me. Like dude, let me get my licks 😆

Whew! I have to admit, beating off the AI music haters like it was a episode of The Walking Dead, was not on my Bingo card for today. Mama always said go big or go home (she really didn't but who the hell cares). I went big, decided to just jump into the mosh pit and start swinging. Can we do it again tomorrow!?

I don't care what side of the fence you're on. Slop is slop. Art is art.

Well said.
AI haters : The new hate mob. The Internet didn’t invent the mob. It gave the mob a keyboard. Humans have been gathering together to ridicule, isolate, shame, and attack people they considered different for thousands of years. The differences changed — beliefs, cultures, appearance, lifestyles, ideas, art, music, technology — but the basic human behavior often remained the same. Someone becomes an outsider. A group decides that person or that group represents something they dislike. Then the crowd gathers. What starts as criticism can turn into ridicule. Ridicule can turn into harassment. And eventually, people begin competing with each other to see who can deliver the harshest insult. The Internet simply made it easier. Someone who might never confront a stranger face-to-face can suddenly become extremely aggressive behind a screen, especially when surrounded by hundreds of people reinforcing the same attitude. We’ve seen versions of this throughout history: Village gossip → public ridicule → social shunning → mobs → propaganda → mass media → Internet forums → social-media dogpiles → trolls. The technology changes. Human nature doesn’t always change with it. And you can see this happening around new technologies and new forms of art today. Take AI music. You can dislike AI music. You can criticize the technology. You can debate copyright, creativity, ethics, ownership, or whether AI belongs in the music industry. That’s called having an opinion. But when criticism turns into attacking individual artists simply because they use a new technology, something different is happening. Criticism is one thing. Gatekeeping is another. Personal attacks are another. And organized dogpiling is something else entirely. History has shown us many times that being different can make someone a target — especially when a group convinces itself that the target represents something that threatens the way things used to be. Every generation has its outsiders. Every generation has its gatekeepers. And every generation eventually has to decide whether it will reject something simply because it is unfamiliar, or actually take the time to understand it. The Internet didn’t create the human instinct to form a mob. It just gave the mob a global audience. And now the crowd can reach you from anywhere in the world. Harass you and bully you. And be as hateful and ugly as they can be ... All from behind a keyboard.
