Die as Heroes will ship with a MASSIVE manual. Mostly so you can have an offline reference to look at in case anything at all is confusing with the content creation tools.
One of the reasons this is cool is that you can reference it while you are still in the game making things + its going to look VERY cool and probably fun all on its own to dig through. :)
In case you somehow haven't heard of this project before - you can wishlist it here!
My hope is there will be a physical edition at some point that unlocks the steam game that harkens back to the big box PC game days. (Time will tell)
store.steampowered.com/app/4…
Imagine trying to give people good advice from decades of hard earned experience to have a bunch of people on this platform get pissed about that.
No shortage of adamant ignorance police.
I can very easily just keep to myself and take what I know to the grave.
Best of luck!
Look, I'm not gonna knock some kid with a big dream trying to get his bag on Steam using AI.
I think we are going to see 1-shots flood for awhile but also go down after a bit.
Here is the thing that people don't understand about making games, AI or not. AI can't make good games without experienced game devs. Or without basically getting so lucky its like winning the lottery.
There are going to be a huge rush of hopefuls on Steam throwing out $100 a pop and wonder why 5 people or less bought it. Believe it or not $100 is actually a nice chunk of change, people will get burned and then likely not light another $100 on fire.
So sure... flooding - like iPhone trying to win that lotto ticket slop flooding from 2008-2014. The numbers are actually not as high as mobile in those days.
The cream eventually rises, the scams eventually become not worth it and when people realize that making GOOD games STILL IS HARD WORK even if you are using AI tools will make a lot of people just give up and move on.
There is a right way and a wrong way to use these things and it takes experience to know the difference or looooots of failing to figure it out. Also honesty. You are not doing yourself or anyone any favors by being dishonest about your AI use.
In the future, using AI or not - Trust and human connection with your fans and your story is how you survive in the modern world as a developer. Break the trust and you are out of business.
Im sure you all had a parent or grandparent tell you that nothing in life worth doing is ever easy or simple.
- but properly used tools can make your life a little easier.
You still need to know what is worth making and how to connect with PEOPLE. Robots are not your customers, humans are.
I am not in Next Fest with Die as Heroes, because I wasnt able to get it to my standards before it started. Its in a wonderful place now, but thats how it goes.
NGL, A bit of fomo happening. Hope people still notice it when its listed after Next Fest is over. 😬
Answering @BrentCaulfield who commented on this post before I corrected a typo - The game is just going throught the polish push. Its feature complete. I am about 3-4 weeks out from gold master. Hoping to release prior to end of November, but then likely up against everyone going AFK over GTA6, Zelda and Wow Forever haha. Some might say there isnt much overlap, but gamers gonna game. Fingers crossed.
Combat Updates, dynamic camera and refining kinetics - getting closer every day. If you love games like this, please consider a wishlist on Steam and tell your pals!
This post right here made a ton of people unfollow me.
Not sure if they are upset about people talking about aliens on Fox News or if I talked about boobs. Sure, I can understand if you can't stand anyone mentioning Fox News in jest, but hating boobs?! WTF is wrong with you?
Hello everyone! I am making really great progress on Die as Heroes for Steam! I hope the start of your week is going awesome!
What are you excited about this week - or if you have anything I can provide insights on let me know! Lets kill it this week, together! Skål! 🍻
I'm sorry - but at the level Claude and Codex are now, having your code get all fucked up - that is on you. A year ago this may have been true, but it is not anymore.
Now-
That's you not knowing what you want.
That's you asking the wrong questions and giving poor direction.
That's you finding out you are a pretty shit lead that would have the same confused results out of human engineers as your direct reports, because your spaghetti thought process looks like a box of random tangled HDMI, USB and whatnot cables that keeps growing in your garage because you might need it one day.
Be mad about it I guess. Or get better, its on you moving forward.
I am very much enjoying Enshrouded 1.0 release. I liked it a few years back then set it aside until it was done. Its wonderful.
Whoa that has to be some sort of world record for the White House for Katie Zacharia. Shit I think even Anthony Scarramucci lasted 10 days (Previous record)?
Thats wild 🤔- In honor of the record lets list things that lasted longer than that job.
A head of lettuce in a viral livestream — Famously outlasted a British Prime Minister, and definitely outlasted Katie Zacharia.
Guacamole left on the counter — It turns brown and sketchy fast, but it still managed to hang on longer than Katie Zacharia.
The milk in the breakroom fridge — The expiration date on the carton had a brighter future at this company.
A cheap avocado — It spends three days rock-hard, two days ripe, and somehow still had a longer professional lifespan.
The battery life on an original Game Boy — Four cheap AAs can power through a solid 15 hours of gaming, which is still more hours than Katie Zacharia logged on the clock.
A standard free trial — Most software gives you 7 days before they cut you off, but White House couldn't even give Katie Zacharia that.
A temporary server outage — When the network goes down for maintenance, it feels like an eternity, but it still cleared out faster than Katie Zacharia's desk.
The lifespan of a TikTok trend — Even the most annoying viral dance gets a solid week of fame before people completely forget it exists.
A standard cold — A stubborn cough will easily stick around for 7 to 10 days, showing a level of commitment Katie Zacharia just couldn't match.
A dynamic weather forecast — The local meteorologist looks 7 days out, which is officially further than Katie Zacharia's long-term planning here.
