October is for 80s, blood and guts, and schlock movies. November is for dark, ominous, psychological gothic stuff. December is, too. The Victorians understood this, they made ghost stories a key part of Christmas. These dying months are great for the macabre.
A random “teen mom” meeting saved me. I didn’t have a normal appointment. I had that meeting scheduled for months. Weeks before that meeting, I hadn’t felt my baby moving; my stomach was soft, and my feet were so swollen you’d think a group of bees attacked me. The day attended the meeting, nurses took all our vitals, and my blood pressure was so high my nurse said they’d have to take more tests and keep me under observation. I was in preeclampsia; all the rooms at BMC were full. They transferred me to BIDMC, went to the emergency room, and I had my son by cesarean (three weeks before the due date). I held him for a few minutes, then they took him to another room. Imaging showed he had a stroke. He stayed at the NICU for 2 weeks. The doctor said if I hadn’t come in, we would have been dead. At the time, it was the scariest thing I'd ever dealt with. Until he died 2 years ago, and that became the scariest thing I had to deal with.🫠
I remember being pregnant and my doctor telling me early on to take baby aspirin to help prevent preeclampsia. My mom told me not to, and I listened to her over my doctor.
Later in my pregnancy, I was showing my followers how swollen my feet were, laughing about it. They immediately started saying, “That looks like preeclampsia!” I said, “No, my doctor said I’m fine.”
The next week, I got induced because I did, in fact, have preeclampsia.I ended up staying in the hospital for a week after giving birth. Such a traumatic experience, I thought I was going to die.
But I will say, after I got discharged, my mom was the one who took me right back to the hospital because I was sooo swollen. They told me if she hadn’t brought me back, I could’ve had a stroke that night. My blood pressure was almost 200 and the only symptom I had was that I was swollen.
