There's no requirement on who you need to share your experience with. The only thing that matters is that you're comfortable with your decision.
The S.C.A.R. Foundation retweeted
You are in control when it comes to whether you choose to share your trauma with others. Your trauma is valid whether you choose to tell everyone or no one at all. Whether you choose to file a police report and face your abuser in court or never want to see them again.

Not reporting does not make a survivorās experience any less valid. We empower survivors to make the choice that is best for THEM.

To the younger me,
You deserved to be able to trust others.
You deserved to go to bed without tears on your face every night.

Just a friendly reminder that abusers do not abuse everyone they come in contact with, so placing doubt on victims based on your experience with that person is irresponsible and unkind.

One tool common to those who sexually abuse minors is grooming: manipulative behaviors that help them gain access to a potential victim, coerce them to agree to the abuse, and reduce the risk of being caught.
The S.C.A.R. Foundation retweeted
Grooming behaviors are used to not only gain the trust of the victim, but also the family and community. The abuser does this to hide their behavior and avoid suspicions, maintaining access to the victim.

Children are at risk. One in 9 girls and one in 53 boys under the age of 18 experience sexual abuse or assault at the hands of an adult.
