The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has held the Bono Region Edition of Time With The SEC at Sunyani on Thursday, 15 October 2026, under the theme “Building Financial Confidence for a Brighter Tomorrow.” The two-day event brought together thousands of students, law enforcement personnel, investors and members of the public, equipping them to make informed financial decisions, cultivate saving and investment habits, and avoid fraudulent investment schemes. Speaking at the program, the Director-General of the SEC, Dr. James Klutse Avedzi, described financial literacy as an essential life skill, emphasising that understanding how to save, invest and manage money is important for everyone, not only bankers and experienced investors. He encouraged participants to cultivate disciplined saving habits, start investing early and choose financial products that align with their goals, risk tolerance and liquidity needs. Dr. Avedzi cautioned the public against investment fraud, particularly schemes promoted through social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram and TikTok. He warned against offers promising unrealistic returns, including claims of guaranteed monthly profits, and urged participants to verify the licensing status of investment operators before engaging with them. The event was chaired by Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, Omanhene of the Sunyani Traditional Area, and the keynote address was delivered by Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, Esq., Bono Regional Minister. They praised the SEC for bringing Time With The SEC to the region and encouraged the public to be vigilant and verify investment schemes before investing. Through Time With The SEC, the SEC continues to bring capital-market education closer to the public, helping people better understand investment opportunities, recognise potential scams and make informed financial decisions. As the Commission continues its investor education drive, our message remains clear: an informed investor is a protected investor. #SECGhana #EnsuringInvestorProtection #TimeWithTheSEC #InvestorEducation #FinancialLiteracy #InvestorProtection #BonoRegion #CapitalMarket

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has officially launched the African Virtual Assets Summit (AVAS) 2026, positioning the platform as a continental forum for shaping a trusted, inclusive and innovative virtual asset ecosystem. The launch, held on Tuesday, 29 September 2026 in Accra, brought together regulators, policymakers, industry players, investors and other stakeholders ahead of the main Summit scheduled for 2nd–3rd November 2026. Speaking at the launch, Director-General, Dr. James Klutse Avedzi, said Africa’s participation in virtual assets was already significant and that the focus must now shift towards ensuring that this participation takes place within appropriate regulatory frameworks. He said tokenisation could broaden access to investment, improve liquidity and connect African assets, including real estate, gold, carbon credits and trade receivables, to a wider pool of investors. He also stressed that Ghana’s Virtual Asset Service Providers Act, 2025 (Act 1154), provides a foundation for supervised growth of the sector. Deputy Director-General, Operations, Mr. Mensah Thompson, in launching the Summit, noted that the SEC was determined not to repeat the gaps that emerged as Ghana’s traditional capital market expanded. He said AVAS would promote regulatory clarity, stronger coordination among African regulators and greater public understanding of virtual assets. The Special Guest of Honour, Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, H.E. Mrs. Sabah Zita Benson, called for stronger international cooperation and Ghana-UK partnerships in fintech, digital innovation, research and investment, urging stakeholders to translate dialogue into practical investment and technology-transfer opportunities. The Summit will feature discussions and workshops on tokenisation, stablecoins, AML/CFT, cybersecurity, investor protection and regulatory frameworks, alongside opportunities for developers, market operators and sandbox participants to showcase emerging solutions. AVAS 2026 will be held in Accra from 2nd-3rd November 2026 under the theme “Tokenisation: Africa’s Pathway Towards Building a Trusted, Inclusive and Innovative Virtual Asset Ecosystem.” #SECGhana #EnsuringInvestor #AVAS2026 #VirtualAssets #Tokenization #DigitalFinance #Fintech #InvestorProtection #FinancialInnovation #Africa

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Bank of Ghana (BoG) have inaugurated the Virtual Assets Coordinating Committee (VACC), marking an important milestone in the coordinated implementation of Ghana’s virtual asset regulatory framework. The inauguration, held on 25 August 2026, brought together representatives from the SEC, BoG, Ministry of Finance, Cyber Security Authority and Financial Intelligence Centre, reflecting the cross-sectoral approach required for effective oversight of the evolving virtual asset ecosystem. The Committee is mandated, among other things, to strengthen regulatory coordination, facilitate information sharing and support collective responses to emerging risks under the Virtual Asset Service Providers Act, 2025 (Act 1154). Speaking at the inauguration, the Director-General of the SEC, Dr. James Klutse Avedzi, underscored the importance of coordinated regulation, noting that virtual assets increasingly cut across traditional regulatory boundaries. “Virtual assets do not respect the neat boundaries between securities regulation, banking, payments and financial intelligence. A single virtual asset can touch all three at once. If this is left uncoordinated, it creates blind spots.” The SEC remains committed to working closely with the Bank of Ghana and other partner institutions to foster responsible innovation while safeguarding investor protection, market integrity and financial stability. #SECGhana #EnsuringInvestorProtection #VirtualAssets #DigitalFinance #FinancialStability #Innovation #ConsumerProtection #Ghana

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on 15 July 2026 organised a Sustainability Reporting Workshop to prepare issuers and other regulated entities for the implementation of the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards (IFRS S1 and IFRS S2). The workshop, held in Accra, brought together listed companies, market operators, regulators, accounting professionals and sustainability experts to strengthen their understanding of the new reporting standards ahead of the mandatory implementation for Significant Public Interest Entities from 1 January 2027. Speaking at the programme, the Director-General of the SEC, Dr. James Klutse Avedzi, noted that sustainability reporting has become an essential component of modern capital markets as investors increasingly seek information on how organisations manage sustainability-related risks and opportunities. "The transition to sustainability reporting should not be viewed as another compliance obligation but rather an opportunity for companies to strengthen governance, improve strategic planning, enhance operational resilience and create long-term value for shareholders and society," Dr. Avedzi said. The workshop featured technical presentations and panel discussions led by experts from the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG), KPMG, GreenVista Strategies and MTN Ghana, focusing on governance, risk management, disclosure requirements and practical implementation of the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards. The SEC remains committed to working closely with peer regulators, professional bodies, issuers, and market participants to support the successful implementation of the standards and to strengthen transparency, resilience, and investor confidence in Ghana's capital market. #SECGhana #EnsuringInvestorProtection #SustainabilityReporting #IFRSS1 #IFRSS2 #CapitalMarkets #ResponsibleInvestment #CorporateGovernance #SustainableFinance #InvestorConfidence #GhanaCapitalMarket

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has engaged licensed market operators and key stakeholders in a consultative workshop to support the development of new policy frameworks for pooled funds and foreign exchange (FX) derivatives brokerage. The workshop, held in Accra under the Ghana Capital Market Supervision and Market Rules Capacity Building Project, forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Ghana's regulatory framework and deepen the country's capital market. Opening the workshop, the Director-General of the SEC, Dr. James Klutse Avedzi, underscored the Commission's commitment to developing a resilient, innovative and internationally competitive capital market. "This workshop is not a briefing; it is a consultation," Dr. Avedzi said. "The recommendations that will eventually shape our rules and guidelines must reflect the realities of the Ghanaian market. I therefore encourage you to engage frankly and constructively." The workshop focused on two key reform areas: expanding Ghana's collective investment scheme framework to accommodate innovative fund structures such as umbrella funds, master-feeder arrangements and funds of funds; and developing a comprehensive policy framework for FX derivatives brokerage to support effective risk management and provide greater regulatory clarity, support innovation, investor protection and sustainable market growth. #SECGhana #EnsuringInvestorProtection #CapitalMarketGH #InvestorProtection #CapitalMarketDevelopment #CollectiveInvestmentSchemes #FXDerivatives #FinancialMarkets
