Our child care sector is essential to the recovery of #OurEconomy, and yet is on the brink of crisis. We have built our budgets on the backs of babies and the low-income women of color who cared for them for too long. #ProtectBabyPropC

The budget would cut $30 million from a city program that helps child-care providers, particularly in vulnerable communities. How? Exempting big businesses that make more than $1 million in commercial rent from having to pay a fee voted into law in 2018.

If a budget reflects our values, what does it mean if the department that oversees 0-5 CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES is the fourth largest department cut? Where are our child care champions? Supervisor @Ahsha_Safai Mayor @LondonBreed Supervisor @JoelEngardio

Many childcare providers already need to address cuts in state funding and the loss of 4 year olds to TK. The last thing we need is more cuts for essential workers who work year round caring for others, including during pandemics!
Mayor @LondonBreed 's recently unveiled $14.6 billion spending plan would slash the Department of Early Childhood’s budget by $50 million, the largest potential funding reduction for any city department.

SF is considering raiding its voter-passed affordable childcare fund to balance the budget. Why does austerity start with babies and essential workers who are mostly WOC? Which supes will say no? @conniechansf @AaronPeskin @JoelEngardio @mattdorsey @DeanPreston @myrnamelgarsf

It looks like San Francisco's goal is to balance the budget on the backs of babies. A 13% cut to the Dept for child care?

San Francisco’s child care community fought hard to pass Baby Prop C in 2018, and took the battle all the way to California State Supreme Court in 2021. Now these critical funds are in peril, possibly resulting in a in a loss of $150–$180 million for child care in the city.

We are fighting to keep families in San Francisco. Unfortunately, Mayor @londonbreed is proposing to cut child care funding by $150 million!
We must speak out collectively for all families in SF, low-income women of color cannot continue to suffer! Women of Color matter!
