Starmer's 81% carbon target for 2035 has some people invoking various terrors about what that means. Here's what his independent advisers suggest he prioritise. 2 key ones are making electricity cheaper & making landlords stop renting out draughty homes

Solar panels and farms go together superbly. Politicians shouldn’t be telling farmers and landowners what they can do with their own land. Farmers know best.

Will solar PV soon be the cheapest source of electricity in most places around the world? This @NatureComms paper says yes. Most surprisingly this is AFTER including short- and long-term storage costs for renewable energy sources. nature.com/articles/s41467-0…

The impact this would actually have on food security is so minuscule as to be laughable. Anyone actually serious about improving food security would be looking at encouraging people to eat a bit less meat, investing in more climate resilient agriculture, and banning golf courses.

History in the making! Jamie Adam, project manager at Kirk Hill Wind Farm, buries a time capsule under the T7 turbine. Inside are notes and drawings from the pupils of Bishop Cornish Primary School, the first school in the UK powered by its own wind farm, thanks to becoming a member of the Kirk Hill cooperative. The kids' visions of the future and the impact of this project have been captured for generations to come and we couldn't be happier to bury them under the turbine they cleverly named "Gayle."

I'm driving on sunshine! ☀️🚗 But what's best, biodiesel or electricity? Fuel from 1 hectare of oilseed crop = <18,000 miles of driving. BUT Electricity from 1 ha of solar PV = 2,000,000 miles in an electric car! ☀️⚡🚗 !!! 🤯 The solar/EV electric combo is incredible!

Absolutely damning post mortem on recent Conservative governments' climate efforts from @theCCCuk. Two years wasted that have undermined UK energy security, competitiveness, and climate action. And all for zero political gain. businessgreen.com/news/43368…

This sentence is obscene. Why are we punishing the people trying to prevent disaster while allowing the oil company giants causing it to reap super profits? @ChrisGPackham
🚨 BREAKING: THE WHOLE TRUTH FIVE IMPRISONED FOR 4-5 YEARS ⛓️ Lucia, Cressie, Louise and Daniel have received 4 year prison sentences today, whilst Roger has received 5 years. ➡️ Stop jailing those telling the truth. Sign the petition — actionnetwork.org/petitions/…

Today 5 people who care about our planet have been viciously sentenced under laws that remove our right to peaceful protest. So I came to join those who stand in solidarity. We cannot put people behind bars for urging us to do what we know is right. #WholeTruth5

18 out of 23 Conservative net zero sceptics lost their seats
These look set to be awful results for Conservatives. We’ll comment more tomorrow, but it’s clear the PM’s strategy of downplaying green issues hasn’t turned round the party’s fortunes. To rebuild, we have to offer a positive conservative vision on the environment again.

A thought this morning for the inspirational @CarolineLucas who spent over a decade working hard to establish the Greens as a viable Parliamentary Party. She now steps down by handing over to four Green MPs who not only won, but won comfortably.

#Election & environment thoughts: - Lab & LDs ran on very pro-climate manifestos and won big - Tories framed net zero as a cost and a negative. Lost massively - Greens won record 4 seats. 1 Green MP was influential. 4 is a lot - But 4 Reform MPs, openly anti net zero & renewables

Everyone wants to talk about immigration in this Election..but no one wants to talk (seriously) about climate change. Put the two together, and the most disturbing reality emerges: of one billion forcibly displaced people by 2050. Please don’t turn away jonathonporritt.com/migratio…

Important read by my colleague ⁦@horton_official⁩ on the climate denialism links at high levels of UK politics. Who are the wealthy climate sceptics funding rightwing UK politics? theguardian.com/politics/art…
