When I started researchED in 2013, I was told by several members of academia that 'You would never get teachers out to talk about research on a Saturday.'
So, this is nice.
A quick photo thread (a thing?) for yesterday's #rEDRugby. Grateful to all who came & contributed. I said I hoped that friendships would deepen, knowledge would be shared & people's professional expertise would grow: I think we achieved that!
See you in 2020! @researchED1

Rhombus (defined in 1679): "a Geometrical Figure, having 4 Sides, and those equal, but the Angles unequal, 2 opposite ones being Acute, the other 2 Obtuse. So called from the Greek word Rhombos, which signifies the Fish called a Turbot, and the Quarrels of Glass in a Window".

Another effect of disruptive behaviour is on the working memory of pupils. Anything that they attend to adds cognitive load. Unless you have a calm, purposeful classroom it literally makes it harder for pupils to learn. That’s cognitive science that is! #cogsci #edchat #behaviour
The importance of this cannot be over stressed. If classes don’t behave, learning barely happens, and fear and insecurity rockets for all. Two-thirds of teachers think of quitting over bad behaviour, survey finds | Education | The Guardian theguardian.com/education/20…

Fun fact thread: In polyhedra names, the prefix "triakis" means "add triangular pyramids on top of each triangular face." There are three Platonic solids with triangular faces that can be triakis-ized. Each of them is a Catalan solid, so of course we want to 3D print them...
