🖊️ The Politics with @rachelrwithers: This is merely a News Corp beat-up of a tired and grieving man who shouldn’t have snapped and pointed his finger, but did. But in many ways, it distils everything that is wrong with our politics and our media. mnth.ly/Ig5xTAN

The UK courts have found you can't rely on assurances of other countries re torture and poor treatment when considering if a person can be extradited - so why haven't our Government asked the UK how this applies to Julian Assange's case? #FreeAssange
#ICC judicial elections a crucial opportunity to ensure a gender competent bench. Importance of gender sensitive judging at ICC is showcased in our forthcoming book, Feminist Judgments: Reimagining the International Criminal Court. @chappell_louise @Dr_KMcLoughlin @Rosemary_Grey
This week, 6 new judges are being elected to the International Criminal Court. ICC judges can enrich their decisions with gender analysis, as shown in the new book, 'Feminist Judgments: Reimagining the International Criminal Court': bit.ly/FemJudgesICC #ASP22 #femjudgeicc
My recent piece for @AIIANational - a culture of secrecy and non-transparency around arms exports worldwide is contributing to the continued transfer of weapons into contexts of severe human rights and IHL violations.
Rather than reactive arms embargoes, a response that brings Australia’s defence export disclosure regime closer in line with those of the US and EU is needed to address the underlying accountability gap. writes @SMVarrall for Australian Outlook.

There's a solid legal basis for gender expertise in the ICC judiciary. The Rome Statute requires judges to interpret and apply the law without adverse distinction on gender grounds and directs the ASP to consider the need for judges with legal expertise on violence against women.
ICC judicial elections at #ASP22 a n opportunity to ensure gender balance AND gender expertise in the bench. As demonstrated in our forthcoming book, ‘Feminist Judgments: Re-imagining the International Criminal Court’ this is a significant issue for the legitimacy of the ICC.
Next week, International Criminal Court member states will pick 6 new judges. In judicial elections, gender matters. Not just gender diversity on the Bench, also gender expertise. Our new book "Feminist Judgments: Re-imagining the International Criminal Court" shows how #ASP22

Every one released from indefinite detention under the High Court ruling has completed their criminal sentence, or not had a sentence.
Gus has been in Australia since he was a toddler, has an Australian parent & indigenous grand-parent.
He was detained 5x his sentence. #auspol
Today the High Court published its reasons for ruling that indefinite immigration detention is unlawful. Since the High Court's decision, 141 people have been released from immigration detention. We bring you the story of one of those men. #abc730

We have been persistently advocating on behalf of the hostages held in Gaza.
Hostage-taking is prohibited under IHL. They must be released.
They must be treated humanely.
They must have access to medical care.
They must be able to communicate with their loved ones.
My thoughts on urgent need for accountability in Australia's defence exports regime published by @AIIANational today: internationalaffairs.org.au/…
First of its kind court action seeks details of military exports by country of destination - information critical for accountability but that Defence has not published since 2004.
BREAKING: We're supporting @alhaq_org @AlMezanCenter & @pchrgaza in this landmark legal action in the Federal Court to gain access to permits allowing the export of arms material to Israel granted by the Australian Minister of Defence since 7 October.
