Al has one of the greatest stories in sports, just an incredible person. One who’s seen the highest levels of success and service. More Americans should know his story. He’s also absolutely hilarious and a mountain of a man!
Jason Kelce visited with 2010 @WestPoint_USMA grad and former NFL offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva to talk about his service in the Army and about the confidence he found in himself during his combat tours in Afghanistan. This interview is part of "Salute to Service: A Veterans Day Celebration," a @PBS special that was written and produced by The U.S. Army Field Band and premieres Friday, Nov. 6th at 9 p.m. ET (check local listings) on PBS or the PBS app.
During their tour of the United States Military Academy, @JasonKelce and Villanueva visit with West Point Cadets about their training and take on the Water Obstacle Course. This action-packed show also features unique musical performances by eight-time Grammy winning musical legend @JonBatiste, as well as music by the Jazz Ambassadors and Six-String Soldiers from The U.S. Army Field Band.

Michael Carter II plays safety for the Philadelphia Eagles, and two weeks ago he threw a baby shower for 40 mothers in Philly who are on Medicaid, which is not a sentence anybody expects to write about a fifth round defensive back in the middle of a season.
It was not a check written to somebody else's charity either. It was his own event, run by his own foundation, in his own city, and more than 100 people came through the door.
They gave out car seats and portable cribs and diapers, and then they sat the families down with health education plans meant to connect them to care that keeps going long after everybody has gone home, which is the part that gets skipped when people read about something like this. A car seat is a car seat and anybody can buy one. A plan that still has a mother seeing a doctor six months from now is harder to hand out and worth considerably more.
He also sat on a panel about fatherhood, which is not how most defensive backs spend an off day.
Carter came out of Duke in the fifth round of the 2021 draft, and fifth round defensive backs generally spend their careers trying to stay on a roster rather than building anything, and he has spent part of his putting his name on something that has nothing to do with football.
The reason for all of it is one person.
His wife Alli is a labor and delivery nurse.
She spends her working life inside the room where all of it happens, with women who are hours away from becoming mothers, and she watches some of them arrive with everything ready and some of them arrive with nothing at all, which means he married somebody who sees that gap up close on every shift she works.
So he went and built something around it. The Michael Carter II Foundation started in November of 2025, he started it with his parents Donna and Michael Carter Sr., and the way the foundation itself describes the goal is that no mother should enter motherhood feeling unprepared or invisible.
That event in Philly was the third one this year, and across the three of them they have handed out more than 15,000 supplies to families who needed them, and back in July he and Alli ran one in Georgia, where he is from, and gave away 3,000 diapers. The same foundation has put 5,000 dollars into his old school's basketball program and helped assemble 600 trauma kits for first responders.
This week the NFL Players Association made him their Community MVP for Week 8 and put 10,000 dollars into the foundation, which also makes him eligible for their biggest community award and another 100,000 on top of it.
Be straight about the size of it, because forty mothers is forty mothers, and it does not fix maternal health care in this country, and nobody involved has claimed otherwise.
But forty families in Philadelphia went home with a car seat they did not have that morning, and the man who paid for it married the nurse who has spent years watching them arrive without one.

Gospel of the Day (John 6:37-40)
Jesus said to the crowds:
“Everything that the Father gives me will come to me,
and I will not reject anyone who comes to me,
because I came down from heaven not to do my own will
but the will of the one who sent me.
And this is the will of the one who sent me,
that I should not lose anything of what he gave me,
but that I should raise it on the last day.
For this is the will of my Father,
that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him
may have eternal life,
and I shall raise him on the last day.”

Pope Leo XIV recalled the beatification of the Georgia Martyrs, which took place on Saturday, October 31, in Savannah, Georgia, in the United States, at the end of the Sunday Angelus. He invoked their intercession “for all missionaries of the Gospel.”
Originally from Spain, Pedro de Corpa, Blas Rodríguez, Miguel de Añon, Antonio de Badajóz and Francisco de Veráscola, were five Franciscan missionaries who were killed in 1597, while serving the Indigenous Guale people, along the coast of what is now the U.S. State of Georgia.

At the end of the Sunday Angelus on November 1, Pope Leo XIV recalled the operation that led to the evacuation of hundreds of civilians this week from the Russian-occupied Ukrainian town of Oleshky under a rare humanitarian ceasefire and appealed for dialogue and concrete initiatives for peace.
He entrusted to the Virgin Mary, “Queen of Peace and Queen of All Saints, all those throughout the world who are suffering because of wars.”

We have an aging population. Demographics are bad. America cannot grow w/out immigration. More productivity via squeezing workers harder & tech advances is their answer but growth is doomed without the immigration. Period.
