#RubberFact The first oil resistant synthetic rubber, made in 1932, is polychloroprene (given the trade name Neoprene by DuPont).
Produced by the polymerisation of chloroprene , it is highly resistant to weathering, ozone, and many chemicals and an excellent choice for a variety of applications.
These include waterproofing membranes in the construction industry, hoses, gaskets, timing belts and a variety of seals in the automotive industry, and watertight sealing in the marine industry.

Did you know, the English word rubber was first used in the 1700s and was applied to latex gum because it is great for rubbing out pencil marks on paper?
In Spanish ‘caucho’ is derived from ‘cau-chu’. Indigenous South Americans called the rubber tree cau-chu, meaning the tree that weeps.

Did you know that the Michelin Man’s name is Bibendum?
He was developed by a cartoonist, Marius Rossillon, (known by his pen name O’Galop) in response to an idea from the founders of the tyre company, Edouard and André Michelin who asked him the create a man made entirely out of white tyres,
Bibendum was first introduced at the Lyon Exhibition of 1894 and, today, is one the world’s oldest – and most recognisable – trademarks.
