We're finally closing our Kickstarter on Oct 30th. This way we can get all the merch orders ready for production.
This also means you cannot buy into our closed beta anymore. Get in there before we shut it down!
Dan is right; vibes have changed. Not even from the perspective of AI = BAD. The ease of creating things has reached a point where the sheer volume of fan-made games is nutty. Each week there will be a new, slightly different take on a game which makes it a slog to filter through
That's not really what I'm talking about though. I used Game Maker to make this back then. So it was much easier than learning Assembly to make a GB rom. I benefited from game development becoming more accessible as how I got into the field.
But I made it for myself and fans of Smash and sharing it was mostly met with good vibes back then. Projects like mine, rom hacks or other demakes were cool little projects to share between fans of the game / genre.
Nowadays, I see more fan game and mods posted than ever. But the vibes are way worse. People arguing about how it was created and if that is even important. Because a lot of the new tools are great at using and modifying what is already popular. Even if you don't use the tools, the magic of seeing a game you like from another lens is being diminished.
Cool stuff will still be made and creators are going to create. But it's hard to argue that the hobby of making a fan game has completely changed over the last year. And I'm pretty sure that a younger version of me would not have had the motivation to finish a project like this today.
