Creating a vibrant future for Swindon town centre will take the combined effort of the private, public and voluntary sectors. That’s why we were delighted to bring together again today representatives from over 30 organisations including key landowners, developers and educational institutions to help inform the latest iteration of shared ambitions for the town centre. Of course, a set of ambitions is only just that. Turning them into reality will take the leadership and commitment of all our partners to bring forward innovative proposals and investment in new housing, amenities, employment and educational space. Helping to transition the town centre from a past dominated by retail, to a future destination where people live, work, socialise and learn. As part of our contribution, we’ve committed to bring forward proposals later this year for a new performance and cultural venue in the town centre, with capacity for national touring shows, as well as other large-scale events. The final set of shared ambitions is being brought together in a document called the 'Vision for the Heart of Swindon' which will be tabled at the Council’s Cabinet meeting next month and shared at our next set of ‘Let’s talk Swindon’ public engagement events planned for November.
