As the Sacramento region continues to manage an active fire season, the California Office of Emergency Services in coordination with Cal Fire issued a Fuels and Fire Behavior Advisory. Herbaceous fuel loadings in the Sacramento Valley and foothills is near 120% of normal and fuels are nearly to completely cured. Heavy and continuous fuel loading can serve as a rapid catalyst for fire growth and spread.
In response to the advisory and local conditions, effective immediately, the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District is suspending issuance of burn permits for recreational burns and bonfires. This suspension will remain in effect until the end of fire season is declared. This suspension includes all areas in Sacramento County where the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District is the Fire Code Official including portions of unincorporated Sacramento County, the City of Rancho Cordova, and the City of Citrus Heights. Please review these tips on how to protect your property from fire:
🔥 Create and maintain a fire break a minimum of 30-foot width around all buildings, combustible fences, areas containing vehicles, near structures or near storage located on a parcel or on properties.
🔥Only perform weed abatement in the very early morning hours when conditions are cooler and the air is more moist.
🔥Landscape with fire-resistant plants and non-flammable ground cover.
🔥If you live in a threatened area, have an evacuation plan and a to-go bag ready at all times.
