Excellent, very well balanced article written by Anna-Louise Marsh-Rees on the pro's and con's of Public Inquiries.
She speaks from a position of knowlege & authority, following her extensive involvement with the UK Inquiry.
A key ally of CATA - very grateful for her support.
The question is not whether Wales should have an inquiry simply for the sake of having one. It is whether the process chosen is capable of answering the questions that remain and delivering the outcomes required✍️ Anna-Louise Marsh-Rees wp.me/p8Mk4U-1w3R

Science keeps learning more about COVID, and policy is always catching up.
Researchers say it’s worth refreshing guidance as new evidence emerges, including how the virus spreads through the air and how we protect healthcare staff.

This question came to me on Bluesky.
I responded as follows:

You raise a good point. A question many others may wonder about.
The answer is NONE.
Though many honours knight/dame-hoods have been bestowed on those who steered the UK through the worst of the pandemic.

As I see it, Baroness Hallett has the power to share information relating to potential criminal conduct with the Police, CPS, HSE, GMC, NMC etc
The Government clearly agrees with me:

🚨BOOKLET: HAS IPC GUIDANCE IN SCOTLAND & WALES LEARNT THE LESSONS OF THE COVID PANDEMIC?
(Spoiler: the answer is NO!)
I’m honoured that the brilliant folks @SupportingHH_UK were able to use content from my thread & transform it into an amazing booklet:

We know #CovidIsAirborne.
So why doesn’t our protection reflect that? SARS-CoV-2 spreads through infectious aerosols that can be inhaled. Does revised IPC guidance in Scotland and Wales reflect what we now know about respiratory transmission?

Excellent post by Supporting Healthcare Heroes here.
Note in particular the link to a booklet on this page.
This tells a powerful story about which every healthcare worker in Scotland and Wales needs to see.
And England N.I. beware - this travesty could come to you next...
😷 A surgical mask and a respirator are NOT the same thing.
A surgical mask is loose fitting.
A properly fitted respirator forms a seal and filters inhaled airborne particles.
So why is a surgical mask recommended for Covid-19 in some circumstances?

Please also bear in mind that the NHS guidance which recommends just 6 air changes per hour in hospitals is “hopelessly out of date and completely unfit for purpose”, as highlighted by expert witnesses at the Covid Inquiry…

I also wanted to add a few additional points about the importance of VENTILATION in infection control…
During Prof Beggs’ hearing, he described how the current hospital ventilation guidelines (for general areas & wards) are hopelessly out of date & completely unfit for purpose.
*** Excellent blog ***
Definitely a 'must read' - ESPECIALLY BY THOSE IN GOVERNMENT, NHS, PUBLIC HEALTH etc who continue to make these mistakes and endanger thousands upon thousands of healthcare workers and patients every day.
🚨 FIVE IPC MISTAKES. DEVASTATING CONSEQUENCES.
The UK Covid-19 Inquiry exposed serious failings in infection prevention and control (IPC) during the pandemic.
❌ Failure to apply the precautionary principle
❌ Misunderstanding how respiratory infections spread
❌ Inadequate respiratory protection
❌ Inconsistent and unclear guidance
❌ Failures in expertise, accountability and oversight
Healthcare workers paid a devastating price.
⚠️ Have we learnt the lessons?

Can you spot the dangerous flaw in this approach? 👀
