We show that the midbrian red nucleus is functionally connected with the salience network (involved in motivated behavior/reward) and cingulo-opercular network (CON; involved in action control). See preprint here: doi.org/10.1101/2023.12.30.5… @DrDamienFair @ndosenbach @gordonneuro

the combination of this study's sample size, predictive accuracy, pain model validity, reproducibility and reliability suggest the PAF/CME biomarker signature has substantial potential for clinical translation (our next goal) 6/6

And please come say hi at my poster No 1099, section 1&2. I've been working on #motorsystem #subcortex #plasticity #precisionimaging #sleep #parkinson #individualbasedstatistics – at Gangnam-gu, Republic of Korea
An invited speaker for a seminar on reproducible science argued with me about this one time, saying that small underpowered studies could not have type 1 errors.

That is not news. No neurophysiology paper provides causal evidence. However, we can generate interpretations and hypotheses based on the results and a broader reading of the extant literature.
If your issue is only with the title of the paper, I'll call that a win.

Another neuroscience basic is the homunculus. @nature published a paper redefining that image by discovering a new network, the somato-cognitive action network (SCAN) in motor cortex @gordonneuro @smarek0502 @SamKrimmel @DrDamienFair @ndosenbach et al nature.com/articles/s41586-0…
What do we make of these findings? Our results challenge models of red nucleus predicting motor-effector connectivity. Instead, we believe red nucleus connectivity may allow for integration of motivated behavior (hence salience network) and action control (hence CON) signals.
So many people helped with this project and I would like to thank them so much @smarek0502 @cl9681 @RoselyneChauvin @JarodLRoland @ScienceBenKay @JTWillieMD @NadeshkaRamirez
