Extremely honored for the chance to share some of my story and artistic expressions with the larger neurosurgery community!
Residency has only provided me more inspiration, and I can't wait to start new artistic and innovative projects soon!
.@SamSpellicy discovered that her passion for intricate, detailed work is what drove her into a career in #neurosurgery and a hobby of wire coiling. Wire Coiling: Where #Neuroscience Meets Artistic Expression. ow.ly/gPlx50KeRel
At a recent Grand Rounds, I was deeply moved by a mother’s story of losing her daughter, Kate, to hydrocephalus in 2010.
Inspired by her legacy, I am swimming Alcatraz this year with Team Hydro to help fund a cure. Any support means the world.

This week my first clinical study was officially IRB approved.
For more than 10 years I’ve been mantra-ing “I want to be a #SurgeonScientist one day.”
I was completely caught off guard by how much it hit me, realizing that “one day” is closer than I thought.
Here we go.

This time last night I was seeing a patient in the ED. Tonight I’m in the lab finishing up an ELISA and running into my recently graduated Chief.
Neither of us are surprised. 😂#PhysicianScientistLife #Neurosurgery
There's something special about being recognized by the people who have seen you at 3am, experiments failing, mid-crisis, and still think you’re doing something right.
Really grateful to my co-residents and mentors for this Academic Scholarship Award.🧠@Dukeneurosurg

Always great when we can utilize existing technologies in new ways to guide our surgical strategy.
Thanks team! So happy we were able to help this patient's pain.
New pub: SPECT-CT guided minimally invasive transverse resection for Bertolotti Syndrome. Good patient outcomes come with precise diagnostics and treatments.
Patient doing great!

Great job by the team!
Incredible to get personalized feedback on grant writing and career planning from legends in the field.
Now armed with a distilled "cheat sheet" on tips to become a successful neurosurgeon-scientist, feeling recharged and ready to get back in the lab.
Thanks KPAC!
What an honor having @mtlawton at @Dukeneurosurg as this year’s Allan H. Friedman Lecturer. 🙌 We loved your talk.
Feeling grateful for the chance to learn from giants in the field—visiting leaders like Dr. Lawton and mentors right here at home, Dr. Friedman and Dr. Gerry Grant.

Have I been listening to the Spice Girls more in the OR lately?
-Yes.
Is anyone mad about it?
-Absolutely not haha.
Happy upcoming International Women's day!

Can't overstate how inspiring and fun this course was.
Can't wait to take the momentum back to the lab.
🏃♂️ Running at the RUNN Course of course! 🏃
The @SNS_Neurosurg 2024 Research Update in Neuroscience for Neurosurgeons (RUNN) course is directed this year by @GeraldGrantMD1. Running with him this morning were PGY3s @SamSpellicy, @taraedalton1, and Nick Chongsathidkiet! Nice!

Congrats to our wonderful chief Josh who is getting married tomorrow!
Also thanks Kennedy and Tara for the donuts. This is the happiest I've see. Drew in 3 years.
3 separate attendings bought me lunch last week, the OR nurses saved me cake and cookies after a case, and we had leftover cold pizza in the workroom for breakfast this morning.
Feeling like a perpetual grad student but not even made about it 😂.
Sometimes little things like this make a world of difference; just grateful to be surrounded by all this support.
Hard to top free ice cream between cases.
Had fun showing one of our current Sub-Is, Sera, some perks of @Dukeneurosurg!
