A Nigerian man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for a series of fraud, hacking, and identity theft offenses.
Beginning in 2019, Chukwuemeka Amachukwu and his co conspirators carried out a scheme targeting U.S.-based tax preparation businesses. They used spearphishing emails to break into these firms’ systems, stealing sensitive customer information. With this compromised PII, the conspirators filed fraudulent tax returns with the IRS and state tax authorities, obtaining at least $2.5 million in illicit refunds.

BACK IN THE U.S. - Manjit Singh Bedi, one of the FBI’s Most Wanted Fraudsters, arrested in September in India.
This marks yet another significant moment for the historic FBI’s Most Wanted Fraudsters program - Bedi is one of six Most Wanted Fraudsters captured since the creation of the new list three months ago – and yet another high value target captured overseas – in a group responsible for a combined over $2 billion in fraud and on the run for almost 4,000 days collectively prior to arrest.
He is charged with defrauding the U.S. of at least $600k in SNAP funds from approximately 2024 to 2025, and now will face justice for his alleged crimes.

The scheme affected 70+ U.S. companies and generated about $3 million. Employer laptops were hosted in U.S. homes to disguise overseas workers.

Tyler Matthew McIlwain, a Mobile florist was sentenced to life for exploiting childrent after investigators uncovered evidence of child sexual abuse material and the exploitation of a minor.
The case began with a tip to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office ICAC Unit and quickly expanded with FBI assistance.
