Last day before Spring Break calls for smores stoich! Smores ingredients illustrate mole ratios. Students were challenged to calculate how many packages of each ingredient are needed to make varying amts of smores based on total mass & serving size. AND we get a tasty snack 🙂

The end of the semester is undoubtedly a little crazy, but I’ll always jump at the opportunity to get in the lab with our @HustlinTigers chemists. An added bonus - our AP chem class walked away from this electroplating lab with a Zn-plated penny or Cu-plated nickel souvenir 🥼🐅

Flame Test Friday for some of our @HustlinTigers chemists 🔥🥼🐅
Tried something new with our @HustlinTigers chem students last week - using Bee-Bots to study the evolution of atomic models. According to students, it was “WAY better than worksheets” 😂 Shout out (again!) to @PEFinnovation for the Tech Lending Library 🐅🥼

Why use gum drops and toothpicks to teach molecular geometry when students can make and assemble their own 3D models?! Thanks to the @PEFinnovation lending library for helping put new tools and technologies in the hands of our @HustlinTigers 🐅

What Gevon says here was echoed by his peers for the 2 hours (thanks, benchmark schedule!) they all diligently worked on this assignment 🐅🥼
Grateful to be in person today with our #HCS_science chemistry teachers. Always a pleasure working with co-facilitators @JoeyHGaby and @Sci_Bryant and taking the opportunity to dive head first into some of our curriculum resources.

Spent a good portion of this week in arguably one of the most fun and impactful PD sessions of my career thus far. To say I’m excited to continue this work with this group of outstanding educators would be an understatement. #IEFcohort2 @PEFinnovation – at Chattanooga, TN

I don’t think I was the only one in our @HustlinTigers Honors Chem class excited to be in the lab today 👀 Gevon is one of the most enthusiastic & engaged students that I’ve been lucky enough to teach. Grateful that he reminded today that I have the best job in the world🧪🥼🐅

We had quite the competitive day in our @HustlinTigers AP Chem class as we talked about Collision Theory and reaction mechanisms. Not pictured - our relay race in the 200N hall.

Molecular geometry and polarity will always be one of my favorite things to teach 🙌🏻 Shout out to this semester’s @HustlinTigers honors chem class for fully embracing every lesson that got them out of their seats and building models of molecules 🐅🥼🧪

A conversation in #APchemistry about Maxwell-Boltzmann distributions evolved into a discussion of roller coasters on Friday. Thankfully, Mr. Shober was around to take advantage of this teachable moment. I’m lucky to have such great colleagues in the @HustlinTigers science dept!
