Thank you to @doubjeopardypod for asking me to share (some of) my views on the impact, application and outcomes of pre-recorded cross examination in trials for sexual offences, and a short discussion of Huw Edwards' sentence.
In the latest episode @KenMacdonaldKC & @timowenkc are joined by @SarahvAtDSC to discuss the sensitive and difficult issue of the way in which trials of rape and other serious sexual offences are conducted as well as looking at the recent sentencing of #HuwEdwards.

The problem is that it is true that many “progressives” have called everything under the Sun “far-right”. And have fuelled rightwing populism imo. True. But overuse of “far right” doesn’t mean that things that are far right aren’t far right. And a lot of this is clearly far right

Many of us in the criminal justice system will have greeted this with a combination of relief and nervous optimism. Putting prisons in the charge of someone who wants to take an evidence-based approach is a great first step to improving the long-term protection of the public.

I had the great pleasure of sitting down with the fantastic @SarahvAtDSC again, this time to discuss the law relating to sex by deception: when someone induces another to have sex under false pretences or where they lie about or misrepresent something important to consent

This is the first of two episodes we recorded. The first is about criminal law and sexual crime generally, in the second episode we discuss sex by deception and what the law says about deceiving someone about your biological sex where they would not consent to sex if they knew.

Why is @TheInnerTemple flying the Progress Pride flag? What business has one of the Inns of Court signalling its allegiance to one side of the "gender wars"?
How was the decision made to fly it? Who was consulted?

The police should remember that they are bound by section 29 of the EqA not to discriminate on grounds of protected belief in the performance of their public functions.

This is not a crime. It does not come close to the elements of any offence, even without considering arguments about freedom of expression. No police officer is entitled to threaten arrest for this flyer.
