We have focussed on experience based and generational knowledge (like cold emailing for internships or CV building or professional networking in academia and industry), something that is not in textbooks. What should we do next? What do you want help/guidance with? 10/11
A couple of days back I was talking to a 4th year MSc student who had come to me for advice. We were discussing topics related to PhD: how to vet, validate, and assess potential labs and supervisors, choosing subjects and topics, how to come up with potential questions during 1/3
PhD. He is aiming to go abroad, hoping to land a prestigious fellowship. We talked for close to an hour. Towards the end, I asked him, hypothetically, would he be willing to pay for someone guiding him through the process and helping him make a better decision. His initial 2/3
Another month. Another masterclass. This time, @qoutuhaul's CV & Resume Building Masterclass received 60+ participants from all over India & a few from outside too. We examined hiring biases & how we might craft our CVs & resume to counter those. Some takeaways - 1/n
Overall, this was a learning experience for me. I hope to put the lessons learnt here to test in our upcoming workshop on cold e-mailing which is happening in March. We will be teaching how to use cold e-mail as a tool properly to apply for internships, applications, 6/n
