What’s more, Democrats have also made sweeping gains in state legislatures, breaking Republican control in states where the GOP had dominated for years. “This went very deep,” McCarthy admitted. “It's going to take time to build back.” There's a rich irony in hearing this from McCarthy, who rushed to Mar-a-Lago to kiss Trump's ring just weeks after the January 6 insurrection, helping restore the disgraced former president's standing.
