We consider Jews everywhere our brothers in faith.
But that does not turn the decisions of a foreign government into inherently Jewish positions.
Still less should the policies of an Israeli government be treated as the position of “the Jews.”
Israeli citizens themselves often disagree sharply over their government and its policies.
Those policies cannot be attributed to Jews in America merely because they are Jews.
Couldn’t have said it any better, my friend.
Mayor Mamdani is the Zionists’ nightmare, not because he is pro-Palestinian, but rather because he is pro-Jewish. He undercuts the entire premise that Zionists use to bully and intimidate anti-Zionist voices.

Official Statement Regarding Mayor Mamdani’s Plan to Combat Antisemitism
Brooklyn, NY | September 30, 2026
An Important and Long-Overdue Step
Mayor Mamdani’s announcement of a comprehensive plan to combat antisemitism is an important and long-overdue step toward protecting Jewish New Yorkers.
As we all know, the rise in antisemitism in New York City predates Mamdani’s administration. It was already a serious concern under Eric Adams and, before him, Bill de Blasio.
Adams spoke frequently about combating antisemitism and took steps to address it. Yet Mamdani’s administration has now presented what it describes as the city’s first comprehensive municipal strategy to confront the problem. A coordinated response of this kind is long overdue for New York City’s Jewish community.
Why the Hostility and Cynicism?
Strangely, some have greeted this long-overdue initiative with cynicism and hostility. They complain that the mayor has not formally “defined” antisemitism, that the plan fails to address its connection to anti-Zionism, and that he must change his rhetoric about Israel. Some have specifically demanded that he reinstate the IHRA definition of antisemitism.
This reaction is difficult to understand. Whatever criticisms one may have of the plan’s details, a comprehensive strategy of this kind represents a substantial step beyond the efforts of his predecessors and should be welcomed. Everyone is entitled to question its provisions and suggest improvements. But why respond with such hostility when the mayor is taking precisely the kind of coordinated action that this longstanding problem demands?
Is This About Jewish Safety—or Israel?
It is equally perplexing that these same voices maintained warm relations with Mayor Adams while antisemitism remained a serious concern. If they could engage constructively with his administration, why not extend that same goodwill to the current mayor as he puts forward a comprehensive plan to address it?
The answer could not be more obvious: for these critics, it is all about Israel and has nothing to do with combating antisemitism. A mayor can march in the Israel Day Parade while antisemitism runs rampant in the city, and they will still hail him as a hero. But a mayor who puts forward a comprehensive plan to protect Jewish New Yorkers is met with hostility because he refuses to fall in line on Israel.
These outspoken Zionist and pro-Israel critics will never be satisfied, no matter what the mayor does to protect Jewish New Yorkers. Their concern is enforcing loyalty to Israel, and they use accusations of antisemitism as a weapon to silence and intimidate anyone who dares to criticize it.
Protecting People, Not Policing Beliefs
All this fixation on “defining” antisemitism and adopting the IHRA definition is utter lunacy. The government is not in the business of telling people what to think. In America, people have the right to be for or against anything, certainly a foreign leader or government. You cannot outlaw an opinion simply because you find it offensive. The mayor’s job is to protect his constituents from discrimination, harassment, threats, and violence—not to police their political beliefs.
We’re sure the mayor does not appreciate the Islamophobia directed at him either. But his job is not to settle every debate over what constitutes Islamophobia or to outlaw opinions hostile to his religion. His responsibility is to protect people from mistreatment, regardless of their faith. The same standard should apply to antisemitism.
Who Is Standing With Our Community?
To recap, these critics are working against the interests of Jewish New Yorkers, while the mayor is taking concrete steps to protect our community. They place their political agenda above our safety, then presume to speak in our name. They are acting as our enemies, while the mayor is acting as our friend.
A Message to our Honorable Mayor Mamdani
And finally, Mr. Mayor, we regret that your efforts to protect our community have been met with such unreasonable hostility. Please know that these loud voices do not speak for all Jewish New Yorkers. Many of your Jewish constituents are grateful for your commitment to their safety and sincerely appreciate the work you are doing. Their gratitude may not generate the same headlines, but it is no less real. Thank you for standing with our community.

Danny Dannon is a diplomate of and is paid to advocate for the interest of a foreign country. He should mind the problems in his own little country Israel and leave us NYC Jews figure out our relationship with our elected officials.
His opinion should be completely muted.

I'm sorry Mr Mayor that some of our Jewish brothers behave this way.
Unfortunately some of them behave like the unreasonable brat kid you can never make happy unless you buy them candy all day.

The Talmud teaches that anyone who sustains one soul, has sustained an entire world. For generations, Jewish New Yorkers have sustained our city. Today, we are launching the first-ever municipal Strategy to Combat Antisemitism.
Together, we will ensure Jewish New Yorkers are safe and celebrated. We will invest in their protection, their history, and their future.
Our safety and our thriving are tied together.

Bold. Fearless. Relentless.
This is who New York City Jews are.
We will not cower before Netanyahu’s attempts to sow division and politicize antisemitism.
Today in Times Square, we made our message clear: Netanyahu and the State of Israel do not represent Jews or our Judaism. 🔥🔥
Torah Jews is LIVE in Times Square!
A day after @Netanyahu’s audacious speech publicly lambasting our Mayor, claiming NYC Jews are in danger, and invoking the Torah to substantiate his Zionist goals, we are fighting back!!!

Mr. Netanyahu, you do not speak for New York’s Jewish community.
Your government arrests hundreds of innocent yeshiva students each week, while we in New York practice our faith and live freely and safely.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani is a friend and ally to our community
You are not.
Question.
What will be left of the Antisemitism business if Israel is taken out of the equation?
I suspect very little.

Anyone wants to sponsor this billboard in Times Square?
You’re stooping way below the bar, @netanyahu.
What a win for Mamdani that you’ve turned him into a hero through your unwarranted obsession and sorry tactics to “defeat” him.

Oh please.
What he has done in the past was litigated on Election Day. He made his opinions regarding Israel very clear when he ran for office. Evidently, a majority of voters, including a considerable number of Jewish voters, were okay with them. Apparently, not every Jew agrees with this notion that a mayor voicing anti-Israel views threatens the safety of Jewish New Yorkers.
So, if you don’t like his opinion, why would you press him about it? Stay focused on alternate-side parking, housing, etc., things that actually fall under the mayor’s responsibility and directly affect New Yorkers, and on areas where he would be very happy to work with the Jewish communities.
Why pester him about a topic that isn’t related to NYC business -certainly not directly- if you know you’re not going to like his answer? Especially when he has a clear mandate that includes his pro-Palestinian views.

I’m going to ask the same unanswerable question that many commenters have asked, but have received no answer to other than deflection:
Why should an NYC mayor be "pressed" about Israel?

Wrong!
We live in NYC. Mamdani is the Mayor of NYC. It’s reckless and silly to bring into equation a disagreement over a foreign country 6,000 miles away that a NYC mayor has no power over, thereby jeopardizing the peace and well being of Jewish New Yorkers.

Well, don't you care about your people in Ukraine, for example? But your loyalty is still not to Ukraine. Caring about Jews does not translate to loyalty to the country they happen to reside in. If your loyalty is to a foreign country you should either move there or have no say in the governance of America. No matter how much you say you "love America".

The only anti-Zionist Mayoral candidate the Rebbe may have ever met in his life was perhaps Rabbi Leibish Lefkowitz the Mayor of Kiryas Joel.
Hey @grok are you aware of a mayoral candidate in NYC during the Satmar Rav's lifetime who was anti Israel?

If you believe America will eventually turn their backs against Jews. And Israel will be our savior. Than pack your bags and go to Israel Gezunterheit. Just go! You have no moral right to have any say how Jews in America should deal with our leaders and neighbors if you don't even believe in America. We do believe that America is the far safer bet for Jews then Israel, so let us figure it out ourselves.

Non of this has anything to do with NYC policy. It's about his position re a foreign country/government. Well, a majority of NY voters including a considerable number of Jews gave their verdict on election day that being anti-Israel does not translate to being against Jews. So be a Mentch Moshe and move on till the next election cycle.
