Finally, media reporting on BC's fracking madness. It caused a massive quake at #SiteC in 2018. Why has it taken this long to look at this?
Fracking leaks/vents methane, the most rapid of the climate-destroying gases. And the NDP back this. cbc.ca/amp/1.7447400 #bcpoli

Here's a photo of the debris just above the #SiteC dam on September 3, held back by a boom. Was this boom deliberately let go, for whatever reason, or did it break? They spent a bunch of our money building huge concrete anchors to hold it.

Funny how the filling of the #SiteC reservoir hasn't made the news down in S. BC. Out of sight out of mind? (And let's not imagine that these dead, spooky reservoirs are "lakes" - if you've ever seen one you know it's not a proper ecosystem like a lake) energeticcity.ca/2024/09/20/…

Broken debris boom, @bchydro @sitecproject?
Or is this much debris meant to be piled up against your earthfill dam already? How much debris is it designed to hold? #SiteC #bcpoli

Horgan's Folly Reservoir is filling up. It will provide power for fracking & producing LNG for other countries to destroy the planet producing GHG's instead of converting to solar, wind or geothermal. With California hit by drought, the farmland lost could feed a million people
Water continues to safely pass downstream through the Site C spillways. The water at the dam has risen by more than 23 metres since reservoir filling began.
For public safety, please stay off the water and away from the reservoir shoreline.

The one exception to the eerie silence on the flooding of a 100km-long valley for the corrupt #SiteC dam is this excellent piece by @sarahcox_bc in @thenarwhalca today.

At $16 billion #SiteC is the most expensive dam in Canadian History and the most damning of any other project.
“Site C has more significant negative environmental effects than any other project ever reviewed under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (including oil sands projects),” researchers state. 🤯😬😳

On #worldwaterday, I want to thank the @ABWilderness for their adventure last week to the Oldman Dam, to discuss what failure looks like. Sometimes engineering can’t save us. We need nature.
Don’t clearcut the headwaters.
Don’t dam our rivers.

When the #BCNDP was elected I presented to the BCUC, that #SiteC isn't clean energy.Vast quantities of methane is given off & the carbon sink of farmland, grass & forest is destroyed & buried under water. Now science proves it. For food security & environment SiteC shouldn't open
PRESS RELEASE: New Report Finds Lower Snake River Dams Create Methane Emissions, Not Clean Energy
“Contrary to popular belief, hydropower is not a carbon-neutral source of energy,” said Mark Easter, chief scientist for Tell The Dam Truth

"It is very concerning that we are importing this much [often fossil fuel-generated] electricity, in a province renowned for our water supply…Except this isn’t the first ‘unprecedented drought’ by far for BC Hydro."

And this is an updated report on this earlier one on BC Hydro's drought and money troubles: xitter.gq/SavePeaceValley/status… #sitec #bpcoli
Drought conditions are having a major impact on BC Hydro's finances & forcing it to import fossil fuel-generated electricity.
We warned it to diversify away from dams! Why #SiteC?

ALT Chart showing massive drop in power generation from BC dams over past 2 quarters TABLE 1—BC HYDRO POWER GENERATION BY QUARTER (GWh). It's nearly cut in half. The loss of domestic generation affects BC Hydro’s finances in two ways; the elimination of revenue from surplus power for export, and the need to purchase imported power to meet domestic demand. Table 2 shows domestic sales (demand) and domestic generation (supply), excluding lost generation of approximately 1,250 GWh/quarter due to line loss in transmission.
