"Severely Impacted?"
The dam destroyed the River and its riparian ecosystem. A dam that should've never been built.
Low water levels in the Dolores River and McPhee Reservoir in southwest Colorado.
The Dolores begins high in the San Juan Mountains and flows through canyon country before joining the Colorado River northeast of Moab.

“We exist to protect and restore rivers, and of course, dams are one of the big threats. Hydropower, specifically, has been built, and is still continuing to be built, under the myth that it is clean energy. It’s not.” -- Gary Wockner

MEDIA STATEMENT: “USBR Says ‘Save Glen Canyon Dam or Bust’ in Record of Decision”
Contact: Gary Wockner, Save The Colorado, 970-218-8310
Today, the USBR released its Record of Decision for the management of Powell and Mead Reservoirs. That Decision is here: usbr.gov/newsroom/news-relea…
Notably, the VERY FIRST BULLET POINT is:
“Provide objective criteria to determine releases from Lake Powell based on actual hydrology and maintaining a minimum elevation of 3,510 feet to support continued operational reliability at Glen Canyon Dam.”
Statement from Save The Colorado:
“Reclamation’s ‘Save Glen Canyon Dam or Bust’ decision sets a powerful precedent that the federal government will sacrifice water users and the Grand Canyon’s aquatic ecosystem in a near-desperate attempt to try and save the dam. As climate change further decreases flows in the river, this precedent that prioritizes saving Glen Canyon Dam will make it harder to reconcile the various needs placed on the river. We strongly support a solution that includes modifying or bypassing Glen Canyon Dam — it’s not if, but when, this solution needs to happen, but again Reclamation has buried its head in the concrete of a dam that should’ve never been built in the first place.” — Gary Wockner, Save The Colorado

In May, solar in Utah *alone* generated nearly 1 million MWh of electricity. The Glen Canyon Dam only generated 166,472 MWh.
Solar power was ignored at Utah’s Gigawatt Summit, yet here we are with energy from sun now the leading power source in Utah, according to @sltrib. Power production from photovoltaics accounted for 33% electricity produced in May, or nearly a billion kWh.

Today was supposed to be our first day through Paria Canyon, but nature quickly reminded us who’s in charge.
Nearby storms forced us to change plans and retrace our steps, but we still got to experience this extraordinary landscape. Towering sandstone walls, fresh mountain lion tracks, miles of red desert, loads of mud and a reminder that everything out here is shaped by water.
The next few weeks are going to be defined by three things: beauty, challenge and isolation.
Today was our first glimpse of all three 💙
