Truly grateful for the incredible support from the
@ubscenter and @econ_uzh on this academic journey!
In 2022, outstanding young talent @SchubertLexi was selected from several hundred applicants to the Zurich Graduate School of Economics (ZGSE) as an @ubscenter Scholarship holder. Now, she successfully defended her PhD thesis 'Essays on Behavioral and Physiological Constraints in Economic Decision-Making'. Congratulations, Dr. Schubert!

Lexi's thesis explores why online workers in South Africa underutilize breaks despite productivity gains, whether access to chronic pain medication influences economic behavior in rural Uganda, and how tax-deferred or tax-prepaid retirement accounts affect savings behavior in a lab experiment in the US.
She will join @wesleyan_u as an Assistant Professor of Economics after a post-doc at @CEGA_UC at @UCBerkeley.

How do people learn about their ability to learn? In my JMP, I show they struggle. Past learning experiences could help predict future learning and guide better skill investments. But do people use this information effectively?

🚨 Job Market Paper Alert 🚨
Public debt levels and interest rates have been rising, raising concerns about debt sustainability. In my JMP, I consider an overlooked component of public debt and its role in stabilising government debt: domestic arrears.
And I was incredibly lucky that I had @LuedtkeAllison as a role model!

Restful activities can boost productivity, allowing you to earn more by working less. But do people get this trade-off right? In my JMP, we show they don’t.
