Going viral What if this coronavirus is the pandemic that public health people have been warning about for years? It would accelerate many pre-existing trends. - border closures - nationalism - social isolation - preppers - remote work - face masks - distrust in governments

Interpretive dance is stupid. Why would anyone enjoy this. *watches bathroom scene from Joker* No, never-mind, I get it.
Funny, all of a sudden a bunch of newsletters for blockchain orgs (which haven’t sent updates in MONTHS) now are coming active. I wonder what changed...

I like the idea of automating my life a bit, but hate when other people decide MY interactions are worth automating away. There’s an empathy required to effectively automate your tasks when working with others.

Algorithm technical interview questions are just logic problems hiding as “real world” technical problems. Fight me.

I like @MikeCompany17 videos and noticing a trend. If we have to ask “what happened to X?”, the answer always seems to be “massive amounts of leverage”. Yet every company still decides it’s a solid play.
The word of the day today is “redundancy”. Used in a sentence: “If I’m going to trust a significant portion of money to a wallet, I better build in some redundancy”.
I just lost all the #Bitcoin I have ever owned. My wallet got corrupted somehow and my password is no longer valid. So now not only is my Bitcoin intrinsically worthless; it has no market value either. I knew owning Bitcoin was a bad idea, I just never realized it was this bad!

That does it, I’m going to replace my K8s infrastructure with one backed by the blockchain. Who’s with me? Also, anyone know what company offers a cert in the “Analytical Reasoning” space? What is that, a distributed database?

Is there a name for the phenomenon where the incumbent system is totally broken, yet is not replaced by a better, redesigned system simply because the switching costs are too high/momentum is too great? Path dependency? Institutional momentum? There must be a better name!

It’s funny how often a really impactful idea gets spun into an inspiring story when their origins are more practical. Disney, for example: Mickey Mouse was said to be inspired by a mouse Walt had. The reality was that Walt needed a Felix competitor and a mouse wasn’t done yet.
So, turns out you can just sort of take old EIP proposals that were built and execute them. Neat. I would not suggest putting these into production until you get a serious audit, but testing functionality of a future potential feature is on the table.

Sorry about the bad news :( We're hiring software engineers to work on a new privacy-preserving cryptosystem @NuCypher news.ycombinator.com/item?id…. If you wrote Rust or C at Mozilla you might be a great fit. Remote friendly. #MozillaLifeboat

A few years ago I had lunch with a CEO who was talking about his 3 marathons that year, the non-stop travel, the 30 books he read, etc. I asked him, “How do you find the time?” He said, “I am not winning any father of the year awards.” Everything has a trade-off.
When did everyone get into marathoning? And reading long books? Is the new intellectual / elite signaling long, endurance activities?

Massive exit. With about $350M raised, that’s like $5B going to common. Hats off to the entire team. crunchbase.com/organization/…

So, just as I was attempting stream for the first time in forever (after experimenting successfully with podcasting), I was getting mic popping. Debugged OBS for an hour before doing a mic test on Audacity to see my audio. Turns out the Snowball failed just as I opened OBS :/

I haven’t actually looked at the blockchain industry for some time. Any interesting projects that might be interesting to dive into?
Whew, it has been a hot minute (early 2018) since I've been on here. Everything's been peaceful and quiet, right?
