Firing safety researchers over disappearing Signal messages, at the lab whose own board fight ran on Signal. Pretty clear what the actual offense was.
Live by the sword, die by the sword.
Those who pick fights with me should understand that I will find out who is really pulling the strings and come for them, not just their puppets …

It's a Napster moment, but MUCH more extreme.
It's time to wake up and realize trying to "own" a sequence, an algorithm, a pattern, just doesn't make sense. These are not rival goods. They can be reverse engineered and duplicated with no effort, like hearing someone whistle a tune and proceeding to whistle it yourself.
We must not allow a system where we can sue one another for whistling.
I am not convinced truth-seeking is any kind of linchpin for AI safety.
What if it's objectively true in some sense that we don't grasp that it would be "better" if humans didn't exist?
Isn't the choice of what to gauge the truth against subjective?

String theory is what happens when an intelligent system is starved of sensory input and starts hallucinating. Intelligence needs grounding.
For this reason, intelligence is practically never the bottleneck to solving impactful problems. The bottleneck is iterated contact with reality.

So it turns out that OpenAI *can* give specific reasons why they fired someone, when real reasons exist.
BREAKING: A Saudi national/OpenAI employee has been arrested by the FBI after he was allegedly caught placing an eavesdropping/audio recording device inside of OpenAI’s executive conference room in San Francisco, CA. Feds say Abdulrahman Alfozan made his first appearance in federal court today. OpenAI says they immediately contacted the FBI after they discovered the device & are grateful the feds made a quick arrest. Alfozan was caught on CCTV cameras at OpenAI.
From the complaint:
“Alfozan had been employed as an engineer by the company identified as “Company 1” since July 2025. On or about Sept. 30, Company 1 personnel discovered a surreptitious audio recording device (Recording Device 1) inserted into a USB port on the back of a television in an executive conference room inside one of Company 1’s buildings in San Francisco. Company 1 determined that the device, which had been concealed in toilet paper, was installed on or about Sept. 28, and that its contents were encrypted.”

So looks like Jacob Coxon (the ex OpenAI and Anthropic researcher) was not that wrong after all when he said the below last week.
"China already has spies at OpenAI at Anthropic. China has the ability to hack at any time. If we pull ahead that doesn't give us a big lead, they can just step in and steal our progress at any time."

truly unbelievable stuff going on. 🤯
FBI arrested a former employee in connection with a sophisticated listening device found hidden in one of OpenAI's offices.
OpenAI says it has no indication so far that the employee accessed or exfiltrated model weights, source code or customer data, yet it hasn’t said what the device itself recorded.
the researchers at all the labs would tell you in private and sometimes in public that alignment has not been solved. if this is true, then racing into RSI is a folly that is unprecedented in world history. we will need to significantly slow the frontier of research very soon

Proposed rule for AI consciousness debates:
For a set of qualities, [X], if you want to say AI can't be conscious because it can't [X], you have to be willing to say a human being who can't [X] is also not conscious.

In the Scott Alexander vs Steven Pinker debate, it really is notable that one side has a much, much better track record on predicting AI trends than the other…
At this point, the burden of proof is on Pinker as to why we should still listen to him.
