Making progress on my Avatar Aang track study!
What’s hard about audio transcribing is making educated guesses solely based on what you hear. But this is well worth the study!
I highly recommend listening to Bond That Tethers. It’s unbelievably beautiful. I’m also gonna be sharing my findings on Patreon this Sunday!
I think I need to shake up the videos I post on the channel.
I’ve done a lot of score breakdowns (which at its core I still love)
But so much of it has been new scores from new films. And it’s incredibly difficult to do a full breakdown with the context of a scene when a film has just been released. Especially if I want to release the video while the hype is still high.
It’s exhausting and unsustainable.
I think general score discussions and reactions make more sense for newer films.
So I’m trying to think of other “pillars” I could lean on when it comes to different types of videos.
Got a few ideas I’m excited to try but it’s definitely terrifying to stray away from what I’ve been doing for the past year+!
Finished watching the Haunting of Bly Manor for the first time since it came out.
It’s truly such a beautiful, tragic love story. I remember being a bit disappointed back then because it wasn’t Hill House. But I’ve really grown to appreciate it as its own thing.
I need your help!
I’m hoping to start a crowdfunded membership where I can go deeper into film music, storytelling, and composing overall.
I’ve been torn between a Patreon or Substack. They both have their pros and cons and I’m just stuck!
I’d love to know which you’d be more open to joining whether it’s as a free or paid member!
I just saw You Can See Everything and it might be my top film of the year?!
Definitely one of my favorites scores for sure!
I need to rant about it. My brain is all over the place!
Absolutely love the way the Newton Brothers used the same theme across Haunting of Hill House and Bly Manor.
And by simply changing the texture of the instrumentation, it feels familiar while totally fitting a new context.
Considering starting a Patreon. I’ve been working on a community through my own website platform.
But I feel like Patreon is easier for people to join? Like people know what it is.
I just don’t know if folks are interested 🤔
I haven’t really studied classical music since my undergrad but I’d like to get back into it. So to say I’m rusty is a bit of an understatement.
Where do you recommend I start?
In no particular order, these are 13 of my absolute go-to film scores to get me ready for spooky season! 🎃
What am I missing??

Slowly starting to put together my list of top film scores of the year!
There’s a lot of great ones to choose from so it’s tough.
Which ones do you think belong on the list? 👀
Having Harry Manfredini come back to score the Crystal Lake titles was the perfect choice.
The high cluster strings, the chaotic woodwind honks, the classic "ki-ki-ki-ma-ma-ma"
It feels like we're right back in the original Friday the 13th!
There’s a local comic/card shop in town that I really like for how big it is and its collection size. But at no point have I ever felt welcome there. Buying from there is always an uncomfortable experience like I did something wrong.
Then there’s another shop about 20 minutes away. It’s smaller and way less to choose from but the owner is incredibly kind, welcoming, and remembered me after bringing my son in.
That makes all the difference.
I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am for Behemoth!
I knew that they’d have a 9 composer collective (Michael Giacchino, Michael Abels, Emily Bear, Lukas Frank, James Newton Howard, Alan Silvestri, Henry Jackman, Nami Melumad, & Brandon Roberts)
But the more I hear about the process, the more excited I am to hear this score! Definitely gonna be interesting to hear each composer’s take as “different films” but also curious to hear a through-line
Will always support Kris Bowers!!
'The Wild Robot' composer Kris Bowers scores Walt Disney Animation Studios' 'Hexed' starring Hailee Steinfeld, Rashida Jones, Tracie Ullman, Jodie Foster, Walton Goggins & Stephen Fry. tinyurl.com/nhc7p9y9
