Saturday night at YS Firehouse in Yellow Springs, Ohio, Dave Chappelle, Wyclef Jean, and Haitian American comedian Sejoe, aka the “Haitian Dave Chappelle,” united to celebrate Ohio’s Haitian community. 🇭🇹 The packed event drew a diverse crowd, including Haitian immigrants, to spotlight their contributions amid tough times, especially in Springfield, home to 10,000-15,000 Haitians as of last fall. Tensions flared after Donald Trump and JD Vance spread false rumors in September, claiming Haitians harmed pets, sparking threats. Chappelle kicked off the night, stressing, “They’ve faced so much negativity, positive voices like Wyclef’s ‘We’re with you’ matter.” He introduced Sejoe, who had the crowd laughing with Haitian-U.S. culture clashes. Sejoe beamed, “I finally met my idol, Dave Chappelle, and Wyclef made it happen.” Wyclef, a Haitian-born star, blended Caribbean and American vibes, playing instruments with flair and saying, “I’m honored to bring Haiti’s culture here.” Chappelle and Jean teamed up after the rumors hit, determined to show support. “Welcoming newcomers beats pushing them away Wyclef’s perfect for that,” Chappelle said. With parole status ending 4/24 and TPS expiring 8/25 per DHS changes, the night of comedy, music, and unity was a powerful lift.
