It took 26 hours of minimum-wage labor to earn an ounce of gold.
In 2025, the federal minimum wage was $7.25. Gold averaged $3,432 per ounce.
It took 473 hours of labor to earn that same ounce.
Your hourly wage increased 4.5× in dollars.
The amount of labor required to acquire gold increased 18.5×.
Measured in gold, the federal minimum wage lost approximately 95% of its value.
Fifty-four years of nominal wage increases, and one hour of work buys a fraction of the monetary asset it once did.

Illinois keeps finding someone else to blame.
A man who says smoking caused his COPD is suing Walgreens for selling him the cigarettes. The store tried to get itself thrown out. A Cook County judge refused, citing Walgreens’ long ties to the tobacco industry.
Brandon Johnson sued Kia and Hyundai over car thefts, blaming the manufacturers’ failure to install immobilizers for the surge.
Pritzker banned assault weapons and signed a law making it easier to sue firearm makers for violence.
In Illinois, the product and the company take the heat. The person who smoked, stole the car, or pulled the trigger is basically an afterthought.

Pritzker is raising commercial tolls on January 1st, too. Some tolls will increase by $6 per crossing.
The tolls were supposed to end in 1973, once the initial debt was paid off.

So the facts pertaining to George Washington wrapping up the end of the revolutionary war is accurate.. the Romney part, although I am no fan, seems conflation and I have no knowledge to its veracity.
George Washington did sign a deal to end the Revolution. It was called the Treaty of Paris, and it established America’s boundaries and water rights, handled war debts, allowed for return of prisoners of war, provided restitution for property, and even gave the British the right to navigate the Mississippi River.
That’s how wars end. Mitt Romney doesn’t know this, because Romneys don’t fight wars. Romneys either flee to Europe or stay home and get rich while better men fight wars for them. The Romneys never saw a war they weren’t willing to dodge while demanding better men fight it for them.
