I'm a parent with 3 kids under 5. I want them to grow up in a neighborhood designed with them in mind.
I recently learned of a concept called "the 15-minute city".
A city where everyone should have access to essential urban services within a 15-minute walk or bike. /1

This week, City Administration provided an overview of the outstanding considerations with the Govt of Alberta's Green Line alignment proposed in the AECOM report.
The City identified $1.3 billion in known costs and risks that were not included in the AECOM proposal.
Last week a parent said my kids are so "extreme" for riding their bikes to school in winter
My response, "how extreme can a 5 and 7 year old be?"
We ski, snowmobile, play hockey, sled & do all sorts of cold activities. Why not bike?
Their biggest complaint is being sweaty 🥵
Thanks @cityofcalgary for clearing bike paths so they can keep getting to school safely.
Yeah, but what do you do when it snows and you need to pick up groceries?
I ride my bike 🤷♂️
I grew up playing hockey on the outdoor rink at -20C
This is easy.

The politics of bike lane scapegoating is fascinating. People hate their drive. Hate it. But no matter how many years they spend hating their drive, they would rather be told bike lanes are to blame than that the way we build cities and move around them must fundamentally change.
Hey small reminder: don't ask people if they believe in climate change. Ask them if they understand the science behind climate change
What do you make for Thanksgiving other than turkey dinner?
I have always hated the fuss around making turkey and it never tastes that great
Why don't kids walk to school anymore?
Over the last 3 years of biking to school with my kids, I have been shocked how little drivers pay attention driving through busy school zones

Something that I see getting missed in our zoning conversation is how we're trying to keep our city unchanged for people with only have 20 more years of life in it instead of 60 years of living in it.
It's kind of dark, but why give so much weight to short-term perspectives
"Students and young people have been thrust into an untenable situation; many of us cannot fathom ever owning a house, let alone moving out of our childhood homes. We are denied agency over our housing choices and subsequently, the direction of our lives." tinyurl.com/38vvcf3b
