The safety net provided by NHS that's there for physical illness is not there for folks with #mentalhealth problems; it's like pre-NHS era.

This is a wonderful essay by our late Twitter friend, Lisa Wallace, writing eloquently about the futility of “pretending mental illness isn’t “in the room with me”. rwillowfish.blogspot.com/202…

Couple of days late to #WorldMentalHealthDay but want to say smth anyway. Enough platitudes, inspirational slogans & sad ppl under umbrellas. Let's talk about the messy, uncomfortable realities. Here's mine - I'm jealous of people who killed themselves psychiatryisdrivingmemad.co.…

How does biological sex affect health? youtu.be/Xp4gd1LiNXc?is=2ONj… The panel discussion includes sodium valproate, a medication also used to treat bipolar (as well as epilepsy, migraine & pain) and emerging evidence that men who take it should consider its effect on pregnancies

It was, indeed, called the London Breast Meeting It looked like a panel of perverts A breast appreciation convention Didn't any of these guys, or whoever put together the panel, feel a smidgen of embarrassment when they looked around? Even for a moment?
An all male panel at an international conference for breast surgeons has sparked outrage among senior doctors. The 14 member panel at the London Breast Meeting, staged last month, was described as “shameful” by commentators bmj.com/content/395/bmj-2026…

Perpetuating an ambiguous title that sounds like a smutty pun - instead of adding in eg "Care" or "Oncology" - highlights a pervasive surgical boys' club culture At best, it's institutional tone-deafness At worst, it confirms some doctors choose this field for perverted reasons

I heard this podcast on the weekend and feel it should be mandatory listening for all regulators and regulated professionals! It's about a very senior civil servant who lived a blameless life until his late 30s, when he accidentally left top secret files on a train. Ultimately, he was demoted, lost his security clearance and got a conviction for breaching the Official Secrets Act. There are many interesting nuggets in the podcast, but I was particularly struck by a few which could have come from almost any #FitnessToPractise case: ~ How he initially handled his mistake (with a lack of immediate candour) only made things worse and was a reminder that how you handle any mistake is often much more important than the error itself. ~ The feelings of absolute worthlessness and despair, and his serious contemplation of suicide (over an inadvertent error), is something which we see time and again. Regulators need to be reminded that the purpose of fitness to practise proceedings is not to punish (it's public protection). Often the regulated individual is the most vulnerable individual in the picture and needs to be treated accordingly - or, at least, treated humanely. ~ You can get through pretty much anything. bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m00333…

I just clicked on that hashtag (#TopTipsForMentals) to double check it didn't have any dodgy connotations I found that the last (& only) time I used it was when talking about the incident I'm feeling mental about now Funny how the brain works xitter.cf/Sectioned_/status/1313…

Same. Unfortunately she seems to lack any awareness of mental illness or mental healthcare outside of her own personal experience, and refuses to accept that her experience isn't universal. I blocked her a while ago for my own sanity but she's still showing up on my feed 😒

This has been all over my feed today. I think we need to collectively stop giving this woman oxygen. She's incredibly unpleasant & feeds off our upset and interactions.. coming out with more and more harmful crap the more attention she gets. Block block block.

I've got half a dozen jars of green tomato chutney 👩‍🍳 I'll know in about a month how tasty it is 😋
Slow cooker deployed for my first ever go at chutney - green tomato chutney, to use up the glut of tomatoes I brought in before the frosts 🤞
