It's inexcusable that more is not being done to protect victims before it’s too late.
The police must check for DA & properly investigate when an unexpected death occurs & all agencies need to work together so we can hold perps to account & help victims. bit.ly/3R4edPw

I don’t doubt the humane motives of #AssistedDying campaigners. Or that public opinion is sympathetic. So why did the Bill fail?

A message of the guidance on suicide clusters is that in some settings - eg schools & universities - we need to act on 1st incident.
One death & the full preventive response should follow.

This needs urgent review - it’s the case that I have already flagged to IPSOS for how it was reported. Something very wrong here - this is a 13 year old child
Heartbroken by the Rochdale acquittal. That 13-year-old froze in pure panic during the attack — exactly the trauma response so many survivors know too well. It’s called tonic immobility: your body shuts down, you “leave” yourself, you can’t scream even when help is close. That doesn’t mean consent. This verdict isn’t justice. We’re sliding backwards on understanding rape, consent, and how fear actually works. The system failed her. Every survivor deserves better. #RapeMyths #BelieveSurvivors #TonicImmobility

Replying to @guardiannews
@guardiannews coverage of our finding that academic pressure at age 15 increases the risk of depression and self-harm from ages 16-24

Important work:
‘For self-harm, in fully adjusted models, each 1-point increase in academic pressure was associated with an 8% higher odds of self-harm.’

I have long pondered why I keep this account.
I find it almost impossible to be here.
I think the moral case for leaving is stronger than ever.
Tell me why you stay …
Key risk factors that lead thoughts of suicide to attempts & suicide in young people include:
-Violence
- Physical, emotional & sexual abuse.
Do we take these issues seriously enough?
How can we when elites behave as they do?
In our new systematic review led by @M_Etherson (on behalf of @mrcdigitalyouth), we identify important risk and protective factors that distinguish suicidal and self-harm behaviours from suicidal and self-harm ideation in young people.
The review also highlights many gaps in knowledge especially in respect of protective factors.

It shouldn’t have taken a dead man’s emails to believe thousands of girls.

I think the hardest lesson you learn as a woman is that our pain or harm is a minor concern when compared to men’s pleasure, convenience and entitlement.
Still now the men are protected and the women exposed.
That’s how they preserve the status quo.

💻 Does Cybervictimisation independently contribute to poor mental health in young people?
Our new paper in @lancetchildadol, led by @Frederic_T_Cout, finds that 1/5 young people were cybervictimised during adolescence, and it contributed to anxiety.

New research establishes direct causal link between #cyberbullying +#anxiety in young people.
Researchers (@L_Arseneault, @Frederic_T_Cout, Philip Shaw) are calling for policy makers to look beyond online safety when considering how to protect teenagers
