Jason Carter introducing Keisha Lance Bottoms :There's an old country song that says they raised the price of dreams so high, we couldn't pay. And for too many people that is true. We do not need another Trump. We need somebody who will fight because they understand exactly what's going on in the lives of regular people all across this state. And we have that person…

Happy 100th birthday to President Jimmy Carter!
As we celebrate this incredible milestone, I want to honor the deep bond between President Carter and my family. Both my father, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and President Carter were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, and together, they left an indelible mark on the fight for justice and human rights.
President Carter’s lifelong commitment to peace, justice, and equality has not only transformed Atlanta but also our world. He awarded my father the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1977. When my mother sought landmark status for the King National Historic Site, he signed legislation in 1980 establishing the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site and Preservation District, which was officially renamed the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park in January 2018.
President Carter’s friendship with my late grandfather, Rev. Martin Luther King Sr., "Daddy King," and his unwavering support of my mother, Coretta Scott King, reflect his deep dedication to human rights and equality. I must also acknowledge his unwavering support for my mother, Coretta Scott King. While she and Daddy King endorsed his candidacy for president, through his decisions, he endorsed my mother as a global leader for human rights, appointing her as a public delegate to the U.N. General Assembly and as commissioner of the International Women’s Year Conference.
We are forever grateful for his contributions and partnership in this ongoing journey toward justice. Thank you for continuing to inspire us all.
Wishing you a blessed and joyous 100th birthday, President Carter!

explaining things b/c some people are confused…?!?
Both my parents are immigrants from Bangladesh.
Both my husband’s parents are immigrants from Jamaica.
We were both born in the U.S. which makes us Americans.
I am a Bangladeshi American and identify as a brown woman of color and South Asian.
My husband is Jamaican American and identifies as Black and Caribbean.
It took two people to make our son. He is half Jamaican and half Bangladeshi. He is biracial, both Black and brown, both South Asian and Caribbean. I hope as he grows older no one tries to erase his heritage or deny him of his identity. My son is America and he is beautiful.

The framers of our Constitution knew that our republic would endure only if our presidents have the character and honor to put duty ahead of self interest. President Biden deserves our gratitude for his decades of service to our nation and for his courageous decision today.

President Biden has put the American people first throughout his historic career — as senator, vice president, and president.
His vast record of accomplishments include the Violence Against Women Act, historic expansion of health care access, record-breaking job growth across the country and in North Carolina, bipartisan infrastructure investments that will strengthen our economy for years to come, and the most consequential clean energy legislation in history.
President Biden is a true patriot. His decision today exemplifies his commitment to always putting the country before himself. I thank him for his remarkable service to our nation.

President Biden’s unprecedented act of selfless patriotism demands that we, as Americans, honor his example and elect a president who calls on the best in each of us.

I’m nothing but proud today of my Pop, our President, Joe Biden, who has served our country with every bit of his soul and with unmatched distinction. Not only has he been—and will continue to be—the most effective president of our lifetime, but he has likely already cemented himself as the most effective and impactful public servant in our nation’s history. He has been at the center of, and had a material impact on, literally every single major issue that our country and world has faced for 50 years. Our world is better today in so many ways thanks to him. To the Americans who have always had his back, keep the faith. He will always have ours.

There’s a difference between defeating people and defeating injustice, between working to right a wrong and working to wrong others because you believe you’re right. Take care with your energy. Mind your soul. We’re all journeying through.

In America, we settle our political differences democratically—not violently. I am deeply saddened by today’s events in Pennsylvania. I condemn any violence aimed at former President Trump in the strongest terms, and pray for him, his family & our nation. We are better than this.
Jason Carter retweeted
There is absolutely no place for political violence in our democracy. Although we don’t yet know exactly what happened, we should all be relieved that former President Trump wasn’t seriously hurt, and use this moment to recommit ourselves to civility and respect in our politics. Michelle and I are wishing him a quick recovery.
