$7.88bn IMF debt > 6 SAARC countries combined. Still poorest.
We don't have a debt problem, we have a theft problem. IMF gives loans to the state, state gives profit to the elite, and gives the bill to the awam. That's not economics, that's organised loot

The real question is: Is Pakistan short of #money, or short of good #governance?
According to IMF data, #Pakistan’s outstanding loans ($7.88bn) exceed the combined loans of six other SAARC countries — #Bangladesh, #SriLanka, #Nepal, #Maldives, #Bhutan and #India.
Yet Pakistan continues to struggle with some of the region’s highest #poverty levels.

The longest water-only line on Earth starts in Balochistan and ends in Kamchatka — thirty-two thousand kilometers of open ocean in between, never once touching land. Nature drew that route before any mapmaker thought to.

People do not lose trust in a state overnight. When #Baloch communities feel unheard, marginalised and denied control over their resources, demands for autonomy become a reflection of deeper political frustration.

Pakistan’s challenges are interconnected, requiring leadership that can navigate complexity rather than treating crises in isolation.
In #UNDPinPakistan’s latest #DAP on Leading Development in a Polarized World, Dr. @ArshiHashmi calls for a transformative approach that builds coalitions & invests in people to ensure reforms endure.

Half of Sindh’s under 5 kids are stunted.
82% of kids aged 7 to 14 cant read a grade 2 story. Only 3.7% could pass a basic maths test. 46% of kids 5 to 16 arent in school Less than half even finish primary
Compared to their own 2014 round almost everything got worse. Severe stunting went from 24 to 30%, young women who can read down from 52 to 48, primary attendance down from 45 to 40
In 2017 PPP gov launched a plan to bring stunting down to 15% by 2026.
Local govts get about 5% of provincial revenue. Districts cant fix this even if they wanted to, everything goes through CM House.
PPP and these ethnonationalists get riled up when u bring these catastrophic failures to light, they only want to talk about who built Dow before partition or "Sindh ki Wehdat", nothing on actual issues
What we have already decided
We speak of the future as if it were open. This map suggests otherwise.
The children on it were under five when they were measured. In the 2040s they will run our farms, offices and factories; in the 2060s they will be the parents and taxpayers on whom an ageing country leans. Two in five of them are stunted. Whatever we choose to do now, for them this part of the future has already been decided, before they could choose anything.
A child’s height at two is a kind of ledger. It records, with no possibility of appeal, whether her mother ate, whether the water was clean, whether someone helped when she had diarrhoea, whether anyone thought she mattered enough to reach. The ledger in Gujrat reads one way. In Thatta it reads another. In Haripur and Kohistan, a hundred and fifty kilometres apart, the same province records two different countries.
We like to believe this is history, or geography, or poverty, things that happen to us. But the greenest districts were never the richest land. They were the places where girls went to school, where men found work beyond the village, where the state and the market arrived. The map is not a record of what nature gave us. It is a record of whom we chose to reach.
We are a society that discounts the future heavily. We defer, we borrow, we promise. But children cannot be deferred. The first thousand days do not wait for a better budget year.
Somewhere in Jamshoro a girl stunted in 2018 will be a mother by 2045. What we failed to give her, she will not be able to give her child.
The question this map asks is not about them. It is about us.

What Could Be More Alarming Than a Country Where 40% of Children Are Stunted? Where Is the National Emergency Response?
These are not merely statistics. They represent millions of children whose physical development, cognitive potential and future productivity are being compromised.
What does this say about our governance, development priorities and allocation of public resources?
We spend billions on subsidies, inefficient state enterprises and government machinery, yet fail to guarantee basic nutrition, clean water, sanitation and primary healthcare.
Where is the credible, adequately funded and accountable national action plan, with measurable targets and clear responsibility for results?
Can Pakistan seriously aspire to economic prosperity when it is failing to invest in its most fundamental asset—its children?
