This has been said many times already, but if I’m honest, I miss playground / battle lab / Creative Royale. It was a great mode that allowed players to just have fun on the main BR island, without worrying about the storm or players eliminating you. I hope Epic brings it back🙏

Opinion - it's over for Epic Games' Disney project 📝 Less than two weeks after sending Rocket Racing to the grave, it seems like the #Fortnite maker is doomed to repeat itself as it puts the pedal to the metal on using generative AI to will into existence a Disney extraction shooter that nobody really wanted in the first place. It's probably been doomed from the start. Early in 2024, Disney invested $1.5 billion in Epic Games to develop the extraction shooter as part of a suite of projects that would bring Disney's characters and worlds to gamers. However, the circumstances of this investment are suspicious at best. In an investor's call shortly following the investment, Disney CEO Bob Iger described the investment as "a way to have skin in the game with [video games... without] creating too much risk for the company." Instead, of course, Epic Games would carry the risk. Perhaps it was a risk that CEO Tim Sweeney felt Epic Games had to take. After all, Epic had gone through a round of layoffs just a few months earlier, and their company valuation had been in decline as investor interest moved away from video games. And while Fortnite was growing again after the enormous success of Season OG, the misfired launch of games like Rocket Racing had likely raised more than a few alarm bells. A $1.5 billion investment could have been the out that Epic needed to "financially stabilize the business". Fast forward to today, and it's clear that this deal hasn't really worked out for anyone. Epic Games is once again struggling financially, having laid off over 1,000 employees earlier this year. According to prior reports from Bloomberg, the Disney extraction shooter has been delayed repeatedly, and both Epic and Disney have been blindsided by how long it would take to get out the door. Disney is also running into financial troubles, after a string of box office failures and an ongoing struggle to get Disney+ off the ground. It seems unlikely that an extraction shooter would help turn things around for either company, especially considering that other games in the genre - namely Marathon and Arc Raiders - have had their own share of troubles. Not to mention the fact that Epic Games have repeatedly failed to launch new experiences in Fortnite - Rocket Racing, introduced in 2023, was permanently shut down just two weeks ago. Fortnite Festival and LEGO Fortnite, introduced at the same time, have also struggled, not to mention Ballistic, Arenas Boxfights, and the disastrous free-to-play relaunch of Save the World. Fortnite fans are, understandably, completely disillusioned by Epic's push to expand Fortnite beyond Battle Royale. A Disney extraction shooter is unlikely to change that. Following in the footsteps of their fans, Epic Games, too, seems to be giving up on this project. Instead, they have decided to use it as a test bed for what Bloomberg describes as "the first time a major video-game company has attempted to build a title primarily with AI." Tim Sweeney has said that this will make their teams more efficient, but many people on those teams disagree with his vision. Perhaps Tim is actually hoping that this will attract more investments from AI companies. After all, it does seem like there's more money in AI than anything else right now. Despite that, it's hard not to ask if digging Epic Games deeper into this hole - much to the dismay of Fortnite fans and the broader gaming community - is really the right solution, or if it'll just lead to more projects that nobody really wanted in the first place.

One removed feature that I would LOVE to see return this Fortnitemares, is the ability to turn into a shadow once eliminated. It was such a cool concept introduced for #Fortnite that turned each match into a great time Fingers crossed something like this happens again🤞

Why This is WRONG...but also why People Think It: I obviously disagree, and everyone who's spent any time with the Storyline knows this statement isn't true, but I do find it interesting that this is a reoccurring consensus for non-Fortnite players. Even with all of the seasons and cinematics that've blown up from Fortnite for years now, why do we keep seeing this thought process? Well, over the past couple of years I've exposed myself to a lot more stories through different mediums, and almost *every* time I honestly do find myself coming back to Fortnite and imagining how much further the IP could truly be taken. Consuming other great stories that have bonus shows, huge emotional beats, long cinematics, etc, make me wish Fortnite could break free from the BR-story format loop (which partly causes this misconception of the story being "repeatable", IMO) and reach the heights of insanely intricate stories like Arcane. 🤔 I'm REALLY glad to see Chapter 7 finally recognize the story's importance, and consistently give it such a HUGE spotlight...but I'm definitely hoping this is just the beginning!! Fortnite has a fascinatingly unique world, unlike any other game out there, and like we've been saying for YEARS now...it needs room to BREATHE. I will die on the hill that the storyline could finally reach its full potential if it was to be moved into a separate open-world story mode. The Island is canonically much bigger than we get to see (as seen in cinematics and dialogue throughout the past 8 years), we'd be able to participate directly in the story without concern for other players interrupting our experience, and it'd be much easier for Fortnite's writers and Story Team to implement lore-heavy things without worrying about how it could mesh with the Battle Royale format. All of this to say Epic's done a downright fantastic job at taking a story like Fortnite's SO FAR in a Battle Royale, but I think almost 10 years later we're coming up to a point where the story is so big it deserves to thrive by itself. I think the story being confined to this mode for so long is a potential reason for misconceptions like the one below. If Fortnite had launched a show I 100% guarantee it'd climb the charts, and it'd be indisputable that Fortnite's story was more than just "the same thing". None of this tweet is me saying it's Epic's fault for people making poorly educated statements on the story, BUT I do think the story EVOLVING out of Battle Royale would be something that greatly benefits it's image, and also allows it to thrive and truly reach its full potential. What're your thoughts on this? I felt this would be an interesting topic to talk about. 💭 #Fortnite #FortniteStoryline
I'm surprised people care about Fortnite lore. The story is truly absolutely trash. Every chapter is just the same thing, ending with the Zero Point backfiring and making a new map and repeat. "We have studied the Zero point and this time it'll work! Oh no it didn't work!".

Shoutout to everyone who has ever touched or worked on Fortnite, from staff to players to creators. It's kinda incredible for any game in this generation to eclipse NINE years (!!) of awesomeness. Heck, it's a way of life! Thanks for coming along for the ride 🫶
