💡Spotlight Feature: Caden Harrell Caden Harrell @Shadyharrell08 e Maclay High School DE/EDGE | Class of 2027
Spotlight Feature 💡DE/EDGE Caden Harrell @Shadyharrell08 Maclay High School @maclay_fball DE/EDGE 6'4 230 Lbs. C/O 2027 Caden Harrell is bringing more strength into a game that already featured twitch, range and closing speed. His first evaluation showed an athletic edge defender who could threaten tackles with his get-off and work free with active hands. What stands out now is his ability to move blockers through contact and sustain that pressure after the initial strike. He looks more settled at defensive end, with the power to complement his quickness. I like how that development is showing up in his play. He can create knockback, keep his legs driving and compress the pocket when the tackle attempts to hold his ground. His hand usage gives that added strength direction. Harrell times his punch into the chest plate and extends to establish separation before working toward the outside shoulder. The placement allows him to affect the blocker’s position, while his lateral quickness helps him take advantage of the space he creates. He also pairs his step with a swim, clearing the attempted engagement without presenting his chest for the tackle to secure. His earlier film established hand activity. This update shows more variety in how he uses those hands and how closely they work with his feet. The hip flexibility and ability to turn the corner are also more evident, allowing him to redirect toward the quarterback and accelerate into the finish. I appreciate how responsive he remains after the first block. Harrell can recognize a pulling lineman, briefly adjust his advance and account for the next blocking threat. Against a back positioned to seal him, he attacks the outside shoulder and challenges the blocker’s leverage. Those decisions matter because an initial win can lose its value if the defender runs himself into the next block. Harrell shows the awareness to change his approach while staying involved with the football. His discipline against RPO looks adds to that picture, and he gets his hands up into throwing lanes to affect the pass. The interior work gives us another measure of his progress. Harrell takes on a double team with a low center of gravity and the lower-body strength to resist displacement. I like his composure through that pressure. He stays engaged rather than trying to spin away, preserving his position until he can shed and finish on the runner. His previous evaluation showed the patience and discipline to defend the edge. Now there is evidence of his ability to slide inside and hold up against multiple blockers. That expands the ways he can contribute along the front, with his strength helping him both generate movement and withstand it. 🗒️ For me, the improvement is in how much more he can do once contact arrives. The athletic foundation remains, including the burst to close and finish, but his updated film shows a stronger presence against blockers and more ways to defeat them. He can clear a reaching tackle, create room with his punch or sustain a bull rush through resistance. I especially like seeing that power produce disruption on fourth down in the red area. His interior work adds versatility, while his recognition keeps him connected to his responsibilities. Harrell is developing the physical and technical tools to make his established movement ability more effective throughout the play. ATHLETE DNA: • Generates knockback with timed strikes and accurate placement • Coordinates hands and feet to clear blocks • Shows hip flexibility and acceleration through the corner • Sustains leg drive to compress the pocket • Resists interior double teams and sheds to finish Film Feature: xitter.gq/SchwartzAthSpot/status… Film Link: hudl.com/video/3/19610149/6a… SAS | Official Evaluation #SASpotlight
