Wow! 🤯 I am truly thunderstruck!
Film Critic John Demetry put me on his Top 10 list!
I am so grateful for his praise—and I am so thrilled that a critic as discerning as he is agrees that this is the “definitive historical fiction” for Shakespeare
Bless you John!
About 15 years ago I was convinced that we will be able to live a verrrry long time
It changed how I approached my writing
I intentionally threw myself into learning everything I could about Shakespeare —no matter how long it took
I wanted to be the world’s foremost authority on Shakespeare
It worked — within a few years I was wayyyy ahead of all Shakespeare scholars
My novels are now called the “definitive historical fiction” by John Demetry, the world’s greatest critic
Do it yourself. Start doing the thing you think will take too long. I promise you won’t regret it
Big Wednesday is a masterpiece
I kick myself for not seeing it sooner
I wrote a mini review in reply below
Friend sent me this clip I’ve never seen of my Dad shooting Big Wednesday. He’s just as stoked and surprised to get a movie funded as I am 😂.
Should I write Big Saturday about my 20s? 🤔 Really would be a lot less profound unfortunately and more of a cautionary tale.
Anyway check this out it’s very cool and if you haven’t seen it watch Big Wednesday:
Whoa. I just saw one of the greatest films ever made. I never saw it before, to my shame.
It is the spiritual father of Star Wars, Jaws, American Graffiti, Apocalypse Now, Deer Hunter, Top Gun, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and even The Godfather.
I thought it was just a surfing movie.
Big Wednesday by John Milius is not just a surfing movie.
This movie is for any person who seeks meaning in our world. This movie teaches us that we should search for meaning but to do so with a humble heart.
I thought that Apocalypse Now (written by Milius) and Deer Hunter were the best war movies.
No. This is the best war movie—because it depicts the battle for one’s soul. There is glory and there is burden. But we each have a spiritual war to wage. This movie will help you more than almost any other movie.
Luke Skywalker and Maverick are based on Matt Johnson—the one surfer who is the best of the best because his heart is pure (even if his life looks like a mess to everyone else, the “inland” people).
There is an old story about four holy men who entered a spiritual garden, and saw the divine light.
I attached this story below 👇
Matt Johnson and his surfing brothers enter the beach through a temple-like entrance.
They are a band of brothers, a Three Musketeers, the hotshot fighter pilot type of devil may care knights errant.
They are the holiest of men who know that surfing is approaching the divine light.
Matt Johnson is the greatest surfer because “he entered in peace and departed in peace.”
Thank you John Milius. May God continue to bless you.
Sincerely,
David
“Read Shakespeare out loud”
Shakespeare saved Sir Patrick Stewart’s life
Shakespeare can save your life
But—it is crucial to read his works out loud
In 1987, Patrick Stewart refused to unpack his suitcase for six straight weeks.
My throat still tightens every time I read why.
Every Hollywood insider told the 47-year-old British stage actor that Star Trek: The Next Generation would be a disaster. Even his closest friend, Ian McKellen, begged him not to throw away his Shakespearean career on a television gamble.
Stewart kept his bags packed by the door, waiting to be fired and sent home to London.
That "six-week failure" lasted 36 years.
Watching him late at night here in Japan, we saw something Hollywood never expected.
In Japan, we call this quiet, unbreakable spirit "Fudoshin," an immovable heart under fire.
Most action heroes scream and fire weapons to look strong.
Captain Picard never needed to raise his voice.
Born into deep poverty in Yorkshire, terrified of a violent home, he left school at age 15 and lost all his hair by 19, convinced his life as an actor was over before it began.
Yet one English teacher, Cecil Dormand, handed that frightened 12-year-old boy a copy of Shakespeare, said "Read it out loud," and secretly paid for his first drama course.
Never forget what happened decades later.
On the morning Queen Elizabeth II knighted him as Sir Patrick Stewart, he invited that same retired schoolteacher to sit beside him at his knighthood luncheon.
No suitcase left unpacked.
No rage on the bridge.
Just a cup of Earl Grey tea, a tug of his uniform, and three quiet words that commanded the galaxy:
"Make it so."
He passed away at 86 surrounded by live music, prayer, tears, and laughter.
And this December, in Avengers: Doomsday, Professor X will grace the screen one final time.
A boy who thought he wouldn't last six weeks in Hollywood gave the world an eternity of nobility.
From Japan, with tears and our deepest salute:
Thank you, Captain. Engage. ✨🖖🇯🇵
I fervently hope and pray that everyone would come to know Shakespeare as a personal friend
It is possible
“Having spent so much of my life with #Shakespeare's world, passions & ideas in my head & in my mouth he feels like a friend, someone who just went out of the room to get another bottle of wine” #PatrickStewart🕯️

Sir Patrick Stewart loved performing Shakespeare
Here he is as Oberon in 1977
I made this short clip with Grok, because the play was not filmed
I think it is a crime not to preserve such remarkable performances

Dowland’s music helps us hear what the Age of Shakespeare sounded like
Too few actors make Shakespeare a priority in their careers
Sir Patrick Stewart always returned to the Bard
Rest In Peace Sir Patrick Stewart
Thank you for so many wonderful performances
And for your lifelong dedication to performing Shakespeare
The “Shakespeare” character in the movie Hamnet would NOT have been buried in the most prestigious place in the church

Shakespeare scholars: “Shakespeare was just an ordinary man, and a secular playwright”
Me: “Shakespeare was an extraordinary man whose works were understood by his own contemporaries as religious in nature”
My evidence:
Shakespeare and his family occupy the most prestigious burial location inside Holy Trinity Church, and their graves have remained essentially undisturbed for more than 400 years—a tremendous honor and a recognition of his piety.
“Jaafar Jackson magnifies Michael’s light with his own”
Read John Demetry’s awesome review of the Michael Jackson film 👇
Yes—the greatness of the film is not just the incredibly moving story of Michael Jackson, but how his own nephew Jaafar Jackson brings him to life
If only there were an “antidote to The Machine”
(there is an antidote: Shakespeare)
Message to Harvard students: Don’t bother trying learn Shakespeare from Harvard. You have the single worst Shakespeare professor in the world.
“It’s the only class I took at Harvard where people would call each other out for not having done the reading.”
Harvard students are lining up to take Hum 10:
“Applications (essays required) shot up 40% this fall with 180 incoming freshmen vying for 90 spots.”
“The class is definitely not for padding the GPA. Students read a hefty book a week and write regular essays. There is no pass/fail option. Digital devices are verboten, and attendance is taken in every lecture (pink slips for those who arrive late).”
“In their applications and in interviews, students expressed the urge to be forced to tackle classics they otherwise wouldn’t read, the need to combat frayed attention spans and the desire for an antidote to The Machine. Several mentioned with disdain that people who aren’t in the class wondered why they didn’t ‘just Chat the books,’ i.e., use AI.”

Jeremy is absolutely correct! 👏
Young people are force-fed so many lies and so much ugliness
They need the Truth found in the Bible and Shakespeare
