I took a lot of heat when I argued that those of us born and raised in America need to consciously detach ourselves from India politically, but this is precisely what you get when you fail to make that separation explicit.
When the expectation is that Americans of Indian origin magically retain some sort of intimate connection with the old country despite being born in America, only speaking English, not knowing anything about the country outside of what they read in the American press, this is ultimately what you get. India ceases to be an actual place. Rather, it persists as a symbol in the diasporic imagination that can strategically exploited to burnish one's position within the progressive cultural and political fabric.
If Abby were truly "passionate about ending fascism" she would move to India, but she isn't and she won't. Her main concern-- reflected in the tweet below-- is to differentiate herself from the similarly deracinated South Asians who instead choose to act out their supposed cultural "authenticity" by railing against cultural appropriation or whatever.
This dynamic is downstream from the particular racial pathologies of progressive multiculturalism, which-- like the nativist right-- doesn't see people as individuals, but as representatives of their ethnic, religious, or caste identities.
putting me (passionate about ending fascism in my parents home country) in the same sentence as an influencer who bullied a young actress and Usha Vance (???) of all people is dizzy as fuck.
Also, Natasha is not Indian, she’s eelam Tamil. I’d rather be embarrassing for fighting for democracy than for not knowing the difference between India and Sri Lanka.
There is no difference btw white nationalists and a segment of India’s opposition supporters.
If they love their country and culture so much, why don’t they just come to India and do this? Why do only these selected 5% of Indians engage in this kind of nonsense and end up generalising the rest of us?
They’re literally celebrating Durga Puja in Times Square. Religion and traditional practices are individual choices, so why are they celebrating in a public space full of people just to show off how proud they are of their religion and traditions?
Now imagine the same thing if the Muslim community celebrated Bakri Eid at Connaught Place or Christians decorated an entire public space for Christmas.

crazy how i’ve never seen chinese americans celebrating chinese new year or eating chinese food get bombarded with demands to condemn the CCP before celebrating or eating, what even are we doing here ?
Poor reading comprehension. People are pushing back against the idea that Indian-American influencers, particularly those born and/or raised in the US, have an obligation to speak on behalf of the Indian opposition

Shocking demands from a Bangladeshi man at Dhruv Rathee’s London protest:🤯
Q: Why did you come to an Indian protest when you’re from Bangladesh?
Man: Yes, I’m from Bangladesh, but I’ve been living in West Bengal for the past few years. However, I was deported because of the SIR conducted under Gyanesh Kumar.
Q: So, what are your demands, and do you support CJP?
Man: I support CJP, and I want regime change in India so I can return to West Bengal, where I lived under Mamata Didi’s government.🥲
Thanks, Dhruv Rathee, for this London protest. Now I know why I should vote for the BJP and support Gyanesh Kumar.🙏

Not sure why generations born outside India need to have an opinion on the internal politics of another country.
I don't get asked about my opinions of politics in Trinidad or Guyana. A Diwali function for Indians born and raised outside of a India is just that - a Diwali function, not an opportunity to wax poetic about what ails another country.

What does Qatari-sponsored history of India for American K-12 school kids look like?
This curriculum was purchased and pushed into U.S. schools; Qatari funded Brown University's Watson Institute (we critiqued in Snakes in the Ganga).
Some highlights:
• "Muslim rulers generally treated Hindus with great tolerance"
• Bhagavad Gita taught "the importance of following the rules of one's caste."
• Text frames the British colonial administration as well-meaning "honest broker."
• The curriculum spins the Khilafat movement was for religious harmony.
• Gandhi, Nehru, and Jinnah at the absolute center of the freedom struggle, blacking-out India's actual freedom fighters—framing freedom as a legalistic negotiation between them and British elites.
• Pakistan believed that because Kashmir was overwhelmingly Muslim, it belonged to the great Muslim community of which Pakistan envisioned itself.
Quotes on Jinnah:
• “Of all the political leaders of early twentieth century India, Jinnah worked the hardest for unity between Hindu and Muslim."
• "It was Congress that insisted on partition. It was Jinnah who was against partition."
• "I have much sympathy with Jinnah, who is straighter, more positive and more sincere than most of the Congress leaders...."
• "He was like God – although we Muslims can’t say God. He was on a pedestal; he was our salvation."
• "The two things that made the greatest impression on me were seeing the Taj Mahal and Mr. Jinnah for the first time. These overwhelmed me as nothing had done in the whole of my life."

Equality Labs, @Hindus4HR, @AudreyTruschke, and their resident Indian leftist collaborators and apologists like @thirumaofficial, @MahuaMoitra, @thewire_in, @scroll_in are directly responsible for the current wave of anti-Indian racism
Bullshit and you know it. It’s really not that hard to stir fry some meat and veggies with rice or boil some pasta
Replying to @TaylorLorenz
The poorest ppl often don’t have the capacity to make home cooked meals for many reasons, but that’s not stepping “leftists” for advocating to deny poor people access to pre cooked meals and things like rotisserie chicken. They cannot ever imagine a better world! It’s incredible
Congrats @HelleLyngSvends - Indias most corrupt and violent party stands with you.
Dear @HelleLyngSvends thank you on behalf of India’s Opposition & millions of Indians for doing what our own media consistently fails at - asking questions of power & seeking accountability. Press briefing / Press conference - Potato/Potatoe. No answers, No truths.
