The Democratic margin of victory in the overall national vote for House seats is expected to be about 13 percentage points, per @nytimes projection, the largest that either party has lodged in a congressional election since at least 1976. nytimes.com/2026/11/04/us/po…

This was something I hadn’t thought of in this way before: an audience member at the @AthenaForumEU event in Brussels last night said that ‘gender-affirming care’ protects the perpetrators of abuse. Because abuse can never be considered to be the cause of a child’s ideation that they are the opposite sex.
An audience member at the @AthenaForumEU Brussels event on gender identity says that trauma is not examined as a cause once trans ideation is brought up with mental health professionals. This means that trans affirming "care" is acting to protect predators.

When Lucie Kon walked onstage in New York to accept an Emmy for her harrowing documentary about Hamas’ October 7 attacks, she was terrified. Her employer, the BBC, had told her not to mention that it was a BBC film. The BBC hadn’t paid for her flight or her hotel. And while she had been in the hospital months earlier, the BBC had eliminated her job. Read the full story here: aish.com/the-bbc-broke-her-b…

If you go back and analyse the extraordinary deeds of heroism, bravery and straight lunacy attributed to Paddy Mayne you start to think that he should be up there with Charles Upham as a recipient of a VC and Bar. When the recommendation was made for Upham’s second VC, the king asked Major-General Howard Kippenberger "What do you think of Upham yourself? Does he deserve another VC?" Kippenberger replied, "I was his Brigadier in North Africa, sir. He did so many brave things, in my respectful opinion, Captain Upham won the VC several times over" As did Mayne.
A new sign has been erected at Blair ‘Paddy’ Mayne’s statue, in Newtownards. Please share if you agree!

As @BeccaBsarro pointed out, there have been over 25k fatal plane crashes since 1962 and only one of them was piloted by a woman. You people are embarrassing yourselves because you’d rather shit on a dead woman than take two seconds to find out that actually, plane crashes are a male problem >99% of the time, and fatal car crashes are caused by men >75% of the time. Gee, I wonder if there’s some male trait like recklessness or insane overconfidence that makes men such bad pilots and drivers.

She was falling 27,000 feet in a minute in an iced-up jet. In about 35 seconds she declared a mayday, gave her tail number, descent rate, overspeed and a 60-degree bank. That's the job. Then she died with eight other people, and you're grading her tone. Fuck you.
A pilot should not: 🔘become hysterical 🔘speak too quickly to be intelligible 🔘say, "We're going to crash into the ground!" 🔘scream like a little girl 🔘hyperventilate 🔘scream like a little girl again A pilot needs a certain disposition. This is not it. That's the reality.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Having a front row seat to your own demise is an emotionally distressing experience and pilots have been known to scream in such situations. Western Airlines Flight 2605 being one such example. m.youtube.com/watch?v=FKLE_n…

Antizionism is not about whether someone is Muslim or not. Antizionism emerged from a confluence of Soviet ideology, Arab-nationalism, and Western postcolonialism. There are all kinds of antizionists who spread racist libels and propaganda about Israel and justify violence against “Zionists.”

It is almost as if open bigotry against one group is condoned or even celebrated, while bigotry against another is presumed even in the absence of evidence based on the identity of the candidate.

This seems a very unwise and reactive response from Green 4 Palestine. Even I am shocked and I have zero respect for them. Placing "Israel" in quotation marks is deeply politically disrespectful @ZackPolanski and calling Israel a "racist project" is vile. Further - the mention of "apartheid" is clearly not evidenced by the recent election where, in a free and fair election, Arab voters have achieved an unprecedented number of seats. xitter.gq/Greens4P/status/211756…

“Israel” is a settler colony that upholds a form of apartheid and is currently actioning a genocide in Gaza. Yes….it is very normal to not want to associate with that racist project.

I’ve never had a Muslim tell me what I can and can’t do. But Christians have been telling me what I can and can’t do my entire fucking life.

No “international court” has “described” the conflict Gaza as a ‘genocide’. No international court has yet ruled on this matter. Maugham is lying & he is doing so to elicit funds.
Jolyon Maugham and his Good Law Project are furious about the report on antisemitism in schools- not about the antisemitism itself, but about the measures to stop it. They are threatening to sue to stop the recommendations being put in place. And they are asking for money

We need reminding from time to time that Jane is first and foremost a writer and storyteller.
Apropos of nothing 😉 here's a wee short story I wrote many years ago, the undercurrents of which do seem rather apt for the moment... "The Story of Tartan" 1) Many years ago, there was a princess who could speak only the truth. Her father, the king was troubled by this, as the land he ruled was a land of lies. The problem began in early childhood, when the princess would look around her as they travelled on horseback through the mountains and glens and say naive things, like: Why father, those people have only turnips to eat! or, Why is that poor woman carrying such a heavy load of peat? Luckily for the king, no one but he seemed to understand what his daughter said, and at her every comment, his courtiers would merely nod and remark: Jings, what an ugly hag you are (meaning My, what a pretty chick! Remember this was a land of lies) and: she’ll by gey lucky to find a husband (meaning: Ah, the time will come when many a heart will be broken by those dark eyes like forest pools). The princess was confused, but did not give up hope. One day, she thought, more of them will truly hear my words, and the people will come to understand me.
