CFA. Caution: will tweet a lot (of bad opinions) about sports (NFL/MLB), sabermetrics, movies (especially 00s comedies), and television. Sometimes my dogs too.

Friends: I started a Substack called "The Analytics Say..." where I'm going to be writing about thoughts that are too long for Twitter. It is free and will always be free. My first post is on where does the Royals organization goes from here theanalyticssay.substack.com…

These are always so dependent on who they cut to playing the saxophone and when they get it right - like here - it fries me

I'll tell you what I did not have 4 game sweep* with a blowout on my bingo card for this World Series unless you just told me the coin landed on heads four straight times for the Brewers

nd the defensive team level too is really neat, both EPA and targets

Cool stuff. Having the NGS charting data that's also clickable is really a nice touch

Move on from the Garrett Wilson to the Chiefs fantasy. It's a first rounder plus for him and it's a late first probably, he's got 4.5 years left on his deal, he's 26, and the Jets aren't going to eat $7M in dead cap. They will be a completely different team in 2027.
Garrett Wilson to Chiefs? @DangeRussWilson thinks the Chiefs should trade for Garrett Wilson

3 first round picks, a good shot at all three being top 10ish, and $86M in cap space. Adding the 29th overall pick or whatever is nice but they have a prepostorous amount of draft capital right now already to be trading away their best player just because of the vet QB

Ravens path to the playoffs (assuming Lamar plays) still very open even with a loss to Buffalo. RBDSM model has them at 92% with W over JAX/LAC/CAR/TB/PIT (4 home games) without considering other teams games. 2nd image is winning the games FPI favors them currently

FTF had this graphic today, had all these games but Buffalo on my list (which in retrospect should have been inlcuded). There was a game vs Denver I had on my list but it was closer than I remember, though Mahomes had 240 yards 0TD and 2 INT and KC made a ton of errors
Feels like you only need one hand (compliment) to count the Reid/Mahomes era belt whippings. Something like the two SBs, at Denver, at Tennessee, tonight probably qualifies.

Maybe wasn't a belt whooping but the Chiefs fell apart in this one

I generally think of Karlaftis' pressures being more of the high effort variety than quick winning BUT this year he has the 8th highest quick pressure rate for the top 20 leaders in total pressures (per SumerBrain - Sumer does not disclose how they measure a pressure)
Replying to @Shauncore
Appreciate the response man. Good to know those can be found there. But yes, that's where I'm at with it. He wins with effort, just not often quick which is where I think the whole "6 pressures???" question gets asked.

Similar figure for Karlaftis since last year too (again per SumerBrain). Very similar rate for FTN Fantasy Stats IQ too (2nd image)

Chiefs defensive EPA/db when Chris Jones does or doesn't get a pressure (per SumerSports) 2026 Pressure −0.068 No pressure −0.072 2025 Pressure −0.406 No pressure +0.011

I know folks dislike PFF but 1) they are also the eye test and 2) a purely GPS tracking chips method (Sumer) had the exact same number.
6 pressures?? That is not what the eye test showed. Will need to watch that after I get through my offensive videos

NGS had Karlaftis at only 3 vs 6 for PFF and Sumer, so not all the quant models agree. So let's just call it 4 pressures

Like I know it would be a funny outcome but in all seriousness, Kirk Cousins going back to the Vikings would great. He's done pretty well this year despite no receivers and no run game behind him (Vikings have both)

Stuff rate: MIN 12th best, LV 31st Yards before contact/Att: MIN 6th best, LV 32nd Raiders yards before contact is comically low at 0.29 with the Eagles next at 0.6 (Vikings are at 1.87)

First game of the season for Kenneth Walker with negative RYOE per NGS. Also sub-30% success rate despite just 7% (!) light boxes
